Okay, so tomorrow does Irvin get in?

Not sure if you are asking if he should or if he will.

I say he should but I don't know if he's a slam dunk.

But if I have to bet on it, I would bet on yes he will.

I think he gets in as Matthews appears to me to be the only "lock" to get in....Irvin has been so close the first two years and this class is not as strong.............to Art Monk, great receiver because he played so long, but Spags brought up a very good point on The Ticket today.........we can look at Art Monk and see his career stats were nice, but think back and pick out particular huge plays he made as compared to Irvin. Everytime they show Cowboys Superbowl highlights you see Irvin making that blocked out twisting TD catch and show Irvin all over the place..........when do they ever show Monk in that light, think about it.

He deserves the honor for what he did on the field. I read an article by Peter King on SI.com this week and since he holds sway in the voters group I was concerned by his comment that; "Irvin and Monk cancel each other out".

I can't say for certain exactly what he meant by that because he didn't offer up any background on that statement but it didn't sound like good news. I am not going to rant about a "Cowboy Bias" I do believe there is some truth to that though. I also think there are other players from other teams/era's who also have a legitimate argument for being in the HOF.

I just think that the voters still don't like Irvin's off the field issues and don't care for his persona on ESPN. Neither of these things SHOULD come into play but apparently they do. I am hoping he makes it. Go Cowboys!

you cannot watch the games from the 'triplet' years and not realise what an impact he had on that team. we hear the term 'emotional leader' thrown around a lot, this guy was exactly that in the true sense of the word. he should be in hands down.

He is a Cowboy, that had drug problems, police problems, and is very outspoken.

I highly doubt it.

I've said it before -- voters see his stats as borderline. He gives folks lots of different reasons to not like him. That makes it an uphill battle.

And please don't throw the "well look at Lynn Swan" argument my way -- yes, Swan has crap stats and is in the Hall -- but judging whether someone should get in by comparing them to the worst WR in the hall is not meaningful.

I think he gets in this time, he should have went in the 1st yr without question

the guy was the dominant WR in the league from 1991-1996...he was better than Rice those yrs and was a huge catalyst for us

In 1996 he missed 5 games due to suspension - we lost 3 of those games, had to play a wildcard game rather than get a bye and then go on the road and play in Carolina.

I wouldn't count 1996 as a dominant year at all.

We are talking about the "Hall of FAME", not the "Hall of GREATNESS" here so it comes down to which players are the more FAMOUS, not who was the better player.

Art Monk has nice stats, but isn't remembered for a lot of big plays in big games, Irvin is. The knock on Irvin is that he was a Dallas Cowboy and had some off-field problems and there are a number of sportswriters who are on the committee that have stated that they will not vote for him (mostly from the NE area) the same guys who voted LT in.

Lynn Swann is in solely because of the catches he made in big games and the fact that he played for the Stealers. Bob Hayes belongs in the HoF more than he does, so does Drew Pearson for that matter, particularly if you are talking about big plays. I would rather see Monk in before Swann but they didn't ask me.

Irvin's stats and performance in big games should have made him a 1st ballot guy, and he would have been had he played for the Stealers, 49ERs, Packers, Dolphins, or one of the other media favorites.

he did miss 5 games...but had he played the whole yr he was on pace for almost 100 catches and over 1400 yds

thats a dominant season...especially considering we unexpectantly lost Jay Novecek and had absolutely no #2 WR (the yr of the infamous Deion as "both")

Irvin was the best WR in football from 1991-1996, period.

and by the way, the 5 game suspension was a total sham by the league office
