    https://fortune.com/2022/01/11/us-novavax-approval-covid-vaccine-when-fda/

novavax vaccine is based on protein subunit technology.
this is proven over the years for flu and other applications.

it is slightly less effective than pfizer/moderna MRNA technology
but it is lower risk and less side effects
this is what i have been waiting for, but it took a lot longer than hoped.

this will first be used in asia and europe and probably australia
so americans would not be guinea pigs for this vaccine.

my personal guess is that it will be approved in usa before april and available around the same time.
it is about the right time, though slightly late, for a booster for me.
though i will likely wait for it if the omicron wave is over by march

Good. This is pretty much why I skipped the booster. Waiting for something new. I'll consider it next fall.

Will it even be effective for omicron? The claim now is the current vaccines aren't very effective against omicron and Fauci said that they have a new version for omicron coming out in a couple of months.

I saw a short video, can't remember where, but it said it would target omicron and be out by March. Here's a different one with the same guy talking.

Good, because omicron seems to be a virus of the vaccinated.

pfizer and moderna will have new versions of mrna vaccine for omicron developed and tested around march
however not sure if they will use that instead of the existing vaccine
this would not be the first time as they did not replace the existing vaccine with a version develoed for delta either.

i suspect both mrna and novavax will have versions for omicron
omicron has basically completely taken over
and the difference between omicron and the original covid is just too big for high efficacy.

there is a lot to think about here.
if omicron is mild or very mild, do we really want to put evolutinary pressure for a different variant to win?
there would already be evolutionary pressure for a new variant with all the people who have vaccinated themselves when they catch omicron...

I am skipping booster as well. At this point I am regretting getting vaccine to begin with, but I got it early.

Me too. I got it back in March. I figure this new one will come out in spring, and I might get it in the fall. Maybe. I'm not getting it right away.

Well, a couple months is plenty of time for rigorous testing. And just in time for another variant for it to not work on.

It's safe and effective before it even hits the market.

This virus reminds me of the early days of hiv…all the false promises made. Still no reliable vaccine…fast forward to 2020…another virus…only this virus spreads much more easily, the next virus will wipe us out if Covid don’t and Covid still may…
