Oline is average at the moment

but average is much better than what we were by seasons end.

Some random thoughts.

Flozell could make us an above average line if he can get work back into form. Being in the prime of his career, not very worried he will do just that.

I am not so sure how kosier will work out. Larry was a Pro Bowler (please don't give me this rep crap, if that was the case Sapp would be in the PB every year as well) Kosier is a journeyman. We will see soon. Bill likes him, that's enough for me I suppose.

The center spot is going to be better this year. Gurode is in another contact year and it looks like the light went off in his head and he is finally putting it all together. Johnson is fighting to recapture his starting position.

Right Guard is something I don't worry too much about either. Rivera was hurt last year and was still decent. Him feeling healthy and hitting the weights again gives me confidence his play will improve.

Right Tackle has to be better. We had a sixth round draft pick who was in horrible shape start 16 games for us. This year we have a vet, a former first rounder 3 years removed from a serious injury and that 6th rounder in a new body.

It would be nice to have depth but you can't at every position nowadays.
I would much rather have youth and depth not to mention talent on D. :)

Just thinking we are going to be ok this year.......

I'll tell you, I wish I saw it differently, but I don't think the Cowboys have an average OL right now.

Flozell isn't really back yet. Looks like two new starters (LG and RT) - three, I guess, if Gurode starts at Center. And the starting line has virtually zero time playing together as a unit.

They'll get better once the line-up is set and they start playing together. And the coaches eventually will learn the strengths and weakness of this unit - and play call accordingly.

But for now, the OL is definitely a work in progress ....

i think we will do okay with pass protection especially when T.O gets on the field at 100% as they wont really blitz much because then you have at least 2 out of the 3 in Glenn, Witten, and Owens open. but i'm really worried about our run blocking. i said it a couple of times on monday and that was that our run blocking is below average and i really dont see it getting much better. Again T.O should help their too but our O-line so far this pre-season has been unable to get any push and Jones looks pathetic also. We are gonna have to rely heavily on the pass if we are going to have success on O.

I say this in every OL thread, but I was really encouraged by the first unit OL production against New Orleans. If we can continue to progress we could have a pretty darn good OL.

Flo looked above average. Gurode was driving forward. Kosier looked good. And most importantly, Fabini had a heckuva first half. If Columbo wins the starting RT position it'll be because he is pretty good because Fabini is a very solid veteran.

even with Flo back, we aren't an above average OL. WITH Flo I think we're about average, but obviously much better than we are without him.

I think our OT's will be fine, along with our C. I'm scared of our OG's though. Will Rivera come back to form, or will his back just nag him? Will Kosier be what we thought he could be?

I've watched Kosier a lot in the two preseason games, and he doesn't look bad to me at all. Actually looks very similar to Rivera. He doesn't get a huge pash in the run game, but looks to be a good technician. He also appears to be very mobile and pulls a lot.

Just from the first two games, I think our guards and centers are going to be pulling a lot.

Against the Saints...they started putting 8 and 9 men up in the box to stop the run. That's fine, but we will kill teams with the pass if they do that.

Average is 10 times better then last year and in my opinion all the line needs to be for this offense to put up some points. For the first time in a long while Dallas has legitimate weapons at all the skill positions and a QB who can get them the ball.
