Assuming we keep Flozell, what would it take to completely overhaul the OLine and who would you pick up.

With the release of Larry Allen you could free up enough Cap space to sign two quality Guards or a G/C combo. Assuming we get a T in the Draft or whether we pick one of those up in FA too.

LaCharles Bently, Toniu Fonoti, Steve Hutchinson are UFA

Keep Flo at LT ... and Petitti, Gurode, and Johnson as backups.

Overhaul the rest of the OL.

Get it done. Time to get younger. No more 30+ year old OLmen.

I get Bentley or Mawai at C via FA.
I draft an OT and OG with the first 2 picks in the Draft.

Keep Flozell and LA.
I don't care what happens to the rest of em.

I'd take Hutchinson in a heartbeat! I doubt he leaves the Hawks...noway they let hem go with the increased salary cap.

I think we must draft top LT...move Flo to right. We will keep LA....who in FA to replace him. Hutch would be awesome, but he won't get away.

I see:

LT = Rookie (Winston or Scott)
LG = LA
C = AL/Gurode
RG = Rivera
RT = Flo

* draft OG to replace LA in 2007....cut Rivera in 07 when cap is not so bad...sign stud OG.

New oline coach will do wonders with these guys...lol

first we would'nt be the only ones looking at those guys if they even hit the market. and second they would'nt be cheap.i don't think it is smart to try to replace that many guys at once. we need some depth, and we need a center, and rt.why start cutting? i'd start adding. allen will be fine for another yr or two so you draft a real guard to replace him and the guy has a chance to develope ,center if there is a good f.a. option that would work but these guys like bentley may never hit the market. draft a center, rt is the only spot io would for sure hire a vet, and draft a rt too.the draft is the way to build your team not f.a., free agency is good place to get a piece ot two but if your whole oline is f.a. then your in trouble evntually on the cap

I think LA's cap hit is about 8 mill this year. We could sign two guys at that cap price - 2 very good ones. That would leave pretty much 1 hole to fill through the draft.

Hutchinson and Fonoti with LA's cap dollars. Rivera is a backup unless u can afford the cap hit. Draft a T.

I'd be shocked if NO let's Bentley walk. IMO they will franchise him.

If Haslett were still there, I would believe that. Bentley has already stated he was loyal to Haslett and his OL coach.

With a new regime coming in, things are not so certain. Most of the time, a new staff is not prone to signing off on franchise players, unless they are really that. It severely restricts getting things done if you have a large amount of money dedicated like that.

I think Colombo is a wild card here. If he gets his strength in order, we are in pretty good shape all of a sudden. If not, then I definatly agree that a tackle is in order. I like Backus a great deal but he's not a LT IMO. An extremely talented RT prospect but not a LT in the NFL. Whatever we end up doing, Gurode has to be none inclusive. We definatly need a Center. I would love a guy like Krutz but probably a draft pick. Runyan is a guy who also might be available and he can play Guard.

Fonoti? Are you kidding? How many teams does he have to wear out his welcome with before you think he sucks.

And Hutch is not available. He's the best OG in the league and he plays next to the best LT in the league. He isn't going anywhere. Seattle can franchise him and keep him for a relatively small cap hit -- more likely they give him a huge contract.

We have got take advantage of the fact that this is one of the best OT drafts in years. I like both Eric Winston & Marcus McNeil, but both have had health problems in the past. The guy I'm leaning toward is Max Jean-Gilles. Dude is 6-4, 340, & is a flat out mauler. He has played in every game the past 3 years, which shows his durability, and has played both LT & LG, which shows his versatility. Take him in the 1st, & Nick Mangold in the 3rd, and you have a good start. Columbo has been hurt his whole career, and is finally healthy. If he can get his power back, and show some promise, then we have the signs of getting better, with the other guys I mentioned.

Keep Flozell! At least another year. He is a known commodity, and, unless he can't come back due to his injury, is one of the best LTs out there. He is also still under 30. Get Peterman & Pettiti into the weight room early & often....haha. Gurode can play this game if put in the right situation. If we can then sign a quality OG/OT in FA, we have the makings of getting this line back to where it needs to be.
We just had too many nagging injuries for the Oline to be consistent this year. With the cap the way it is, it's hard to keep quality back-ups.

First off, I agree with you.

However, the prime time for an o-linemen is much later than that of skill positions. Think 29-34, even later depending on his health and conditioning. I don't mind having old guys up front as much as I mind old guys back at QB or WR.
