In watching the entire game over again. The constant problem I see on Defense weekly is the lack of talent we have at LB. Our LBs just aren't making plays.
I know the secondary is week. But alot of times it is because our LBs aren't dropping deep enough or bumping the TE/WR in route.

Because alot of the problems we are still seeing on Defense 1 year later. Makes me believe that coaching is not the problem. Some of the guys on the Defense are definetly overrated and just not smart.

Middle linebackers

Ware, Ellis, and Spencer have been very good on the outside

I think we are pretty solid at outside LB. But when you take a bobby Carpenter with the first pick in the draft and bust on him, then you will have problems. I think Parcells out thought himself sometimes.

Man, Carpenter was truly a bad draft pick by BP.
BP needed to retire.

I know many of you are now pushing for Garrett as HC. Just remember a good OC does not make you a great HC..ie.. Brian Billick. Be careful what you ask for.

Yeah, our linebackers are sad. Of course, they're also 12-1. :p:

I said this before, ILB is a weakness, not a strength here...Take your pick, no inside LB today did a god job either in coverage, runstopping or making tackles...And did ya see how many times Ayodele got blown up by a Lion RB??

I would say our ILBs are usually a strength against the run and just adequate against the pass. Today, they sucked at both.

Say what you want about Carpenter though, from what I remember at the end of last year, he was better against the pass than what we have in there now. He just had a hard time getting off of blocks in the run game.

Hey we have two 1st rounders next year, why not draft two of them. We can make it a yearly tradition

I have NOT rewatched it, and I don't know if I will. It's on again Tues. night: NFL network at 8pm EST. I don't need to rewatch however to know that you guys are 100% right: and it pains me like a kick in the nads but Kitna was right too: James and Ayodele are liabilities. Not just today, but the tackle Ayodele missed against G.Bay that let Grant score on a 60 yarder, etc.....they've struggled ALL year in the middle of the field and it's coming home to roost I'm afraid. I've been a critic of Roy W. all year, but I'm really starting to think the lb's in front of him just plain suck. Maybe Carp and Burnett should get some playing time the next few weeks: NOT because they're better, but because Ayodele and James just look SPENT.

If we went CB and ILB I would be very happy.

Akin and Bradie may just be square pegs in Wade's D. It might be better to take a look at someone like Boss Bailey in Free Agency and hope he stays healthy. Lord knows we can't draft them. Wade did very well with moving Donnie Edwards to a 3-4 ILB.

I wouldn't be apposed to going CB, ILB if we were able to snag someone like Bernard Berrian in Free Agency

Berrian? Everytime I watch the Bears play, Berrian is always dropping passes. Rex Grossman isn't that good but he's certainly hurt by his receiver corp that always seems to find a way to drop some easy passes....

Bradie James had an off day. He was making plays earlier in the season. Akin has been a no show all season, I think he should be replaced next year.

Don't forget about Burnett though. He's been our best ILB recently. I'm surprised we didn't see him more in this game.

I still think we should tell Roy Williams to beef up and come back to play ILB next year. Maybe that's just a pipe dream, but he'd be a very good ILB against the pass and he blows guys up at the line of scrimmage already. But then again, he doesn't have huge guards and centers coming up to block him right now.

I thought even before the year started that we might need a more athletic ILB (or two, for depth) in this scheme. Parcells wanted the big strong sluggos to hold ground, while Wade wants a more traditional swarming speedy type.

That's why Carpenter is pretty frustrating... He's more athletic than either of the guys we have, yet he's apparently not even good enough to give either of the starters a break from time to time.

Both times I watched him this year he made two of the best catches for a TD I've seen all year. And Last year he was always getting behind the coverage, that's easily explained this year with their lack of production in the run game, Safeties have not been preoccupied with Cedric Benson and now the other Adrian Peterson. Heck we are all armchair scouts here, but I think of Berrian as a solid 2/ Borderline 1 with a great QB like Tony and Crayton as a solid 3/ Borderline 2 with Tony.

The what?

Hamlin was the only one who touched Grant on that play.

Is Berrian known for bad hands or is it just this season mostly? Because if its the latter... then he gets a pass... that team has been a mess since what? week 1.... it matters... look at Moss in Oakland and all the geniuses who had him done and lost a step and this and that....
