On the fence with Flo

I can't remember being so on the fence about a FA.... it almost seems like a no win situation for us.

Keeping Him: We keep our O-Line intact and keep Romo's blindside protected. Pro Bowl LT's do not grow on trees and he should have a few good years left in him. But the price will be steep and if we keep him, we really limit what else we can do. that may mean hamlin goes and we are back to crap at FS. May mean we cannot go after a WR in FA/trade.

Letting Him Walk: We save a ton of money and are free to do just about anything we want in the offseason (within reason). We definitely keep Hamlin and some of the leftover $ may be kept for Newman. But we are trusting a 4th rounder (Free) without a single start to hold down perhaps the second most important position on the team. If he cannot hold down the job, it really handcuffs the offense and may force Davis to move from RG which opens another can of worms.

as i said, I don't know which way to go on this one.:huh:

I would like to see Dallas work a deal out with Flo but within reason

And to add fuel to the fire, we have a new O-line coach that hasn't even seen the young player (Free) practice, so it's hard to just go by his decision.

I am very much on that fence with you. I like Flo and think he can help this team, but a huge contract will bother me because I don't think he's that great and we can find another solution. I can't make up my mind. I can live with him coming back or being gone. Neither solution appeals to me so much I have a firm opinion on it.

For what it's worth, he weighed in at 324 at the Combine.

Our offseason weight conditioning program soon starts in about mid March. You better believe that Houck will keep a close watch on Free along with the other young players; same goes for those vet OL. Don't forget the Cowboys film all their practices to Houck will be able to get a good long at Free along with the game tape we probably still have on Free while he was in college. Also don't forget Free was a legit late 2nd rounder except he played his whole senior season with an injuried foot which dropped him in the draft. We darn lucky to get him in the 4th round; I wanted to take him in the 3rd but we drafted James Marten instead.

I'm not on the fence at all. WE NEED TO RE-SIGN BIG FLO A.S.A.P. With the pass rushes we face in the NFC East alone is more then enough reason to re-sign him. Flo is a baller!!! He may jump offsides from time to time BUT you NEVER hear from his man and he faces the best week in and week out. WE NEED TO GET HIM INKED.....

How much would it cost to re-sign Flo anyway? About $8mm/season?

I still hope we can keep him.

If we can keep Hamlin and Flo, and pick up a WR in FA, I'd be pretty happy.

I guess we could always use a draft pick or two on CBs if we had to.

If signing Flo means automatically losing Hamlin, and not signing Flo means automatically keeping Hamlin, then I let Flo go.

Sure, it would be perferable to keep Flo. But not if it hurts us at Safety and other positions.

Flo is good. There is no doubt about it. But we can't break the bank for him. I think one of the backups could be good, and Romo is great at moving in the pocket.

I think Romo has made our line look better than it is. If Bledsoe would have been back there with the same line, we would not be as happy with it. And I think Romo could make Free or Pat McQ look good. And, I suppose worst case scenario if one of the young'ins don't pan out, we always have Bigg.

I just don't think we can put the team in a bad position just to keep Flo.

I wouldn't be heart broken if Flozel leaves. If David Diehl can play LT so can Doug Free.

debating whether to keep a franchise LT or FS

I've seen it'all

Eh, not quite.

It's more like:

Flo.

or

Hamlin;
FA _____;
Resign _____;
and cap health.

It's really not even about that. We could re-sign Flo, Hamlin, Canty and Barber and still have room to bring in a big name FA and sign our rookies.

This is for all you so called experts because I know I ain't one I want to see what you guys think....

Why not just let Flo walk and pay a better player what we are willing to pay FLo or is there just no one available coming up in FA?

my reasons...I think if FLo endures one more serious injury this year it will cost us big, a younger and better OL might be able to bounce back from such an injury but FLo, I don't think so.....second, I think FLo committed too many mental errors this year, some that erased some pretty meaningful catches and runs by our other players, not to mention he put us in some deep holes on 3rd downs because of his dumb penalties.....
