I was trying to get tickets to one of their home games around that time. Couldn't quite get it done. But thought he would get it in Detroit. What a slap in the face that would have been to the Lions fans. They figured Barry Sanders would have been the leading rusher if he kept playing, if he kept running like he was, and didn't hit that RB wall like many do.
But only to see Emmitt get it in Detroit instead....how funny would have that been....LOL....

it was a great moment... tarnished by the team failing to rise to the moment, and losing a game they should have won easily.

I don't see Emmitt's record being broken any time soon, if ever. AP looked like he might be a threat to break it, but he's still 6600 yards away, and can't stay healthy. Frank Gore is actually closer than AP, but he has no chance of getting another 5800 yards before he retires. After that, you have to look all the way down the list to Matt Forte and Shady McCoy, who are still 9000 - 10000 yards from Emmit's record. If that record is going to fall, it's going to fall to an RB that's just getting started (Zeke, I'm looking at you), or a back that isn't even in the league yet.

I recall vividly the play in which he broke...ironically I recall say to myself through the excitement..."dang, the old Emmitt wudda taken that to the house!?!"...LOL.

Needless to say, one of the all-time greats and his HOF acceptance speech was the best I have ever seen...love that dude.

It was great to watch live and see his emotion on the sideline with Moose. He will always be my all time favorite Cowboy. He was so close to taking it to the house; as special as it was it would have been exemplified had he maintained his balance.

I was at this game!

Don't forget that in this same game Darren Woodson broke the Cowboys total tackles record too!

Wow. Time flies.

This board, or it's predecessor at least, was engaged in a heated debate about the viability of Quincy Carter as a future QB in 2002. Somehow I think the Cowboys have a much more promising signal caller as QB of the future.

I went to this game. It was the first Cowboys game i'd ever been too.

We lost that game...

Chad Hutchinson threw a TD to Joey Galloway and right before that play happened I yelled out Man Coverage TOUCHDOWN Galloway and 5 seconds later he walked the ball in.

It was hard for me to enjoy Emmitt's ceremony after the game because we had lost.

Today is me and my wife's 15th wedding anniversary . On our first one we were at Texas Stadium watching Emmitt Smith break that record. My wife was skeptical of a trip to Dallas to watch a football game on our very first anniversary. I told her that I loved her and that although we'd been married a year, I had lifelong relationship with the Dallas Cowboys. It didn't go over well at the time, but once she saw how happy I was to be there and what it meant to me, she was cool with it!
