The thicker ones they make that cost money are way worse for the environment, actually. And that was the whole reasoning behind them: better for environment. The only problem is nobody reuses them.When I lived in Hawaii, they passed a similar law as New Zealand. The problem is they didn't define it well enough in the new law, and to get around it, grocery stores just made thicker plastic bags. LOL. AND they started charging the customers for them because they obviously cost a lot more to make. Even just from a customer satisfaction viewpoint, you can't convince me those flimsy plastic bags that rip so easy are better for us.
Someone in Austin got rich from that bag scam.
