Dak doing well in the preseason will put pressure on Romo to do well during the season. Romo may end up having done to him what he did to Drew Bledsoe.

Let's put the anointment oil away....... That just isn't happening unless drastic things happen

One of the things that I am most excited about due to drafting Elliot and Prescott is that preseason games will be even more interesting to watch and support during those games. While everyone has their favorite rookies and underdogs to watch, being able to watch players like Elliot and Prescott will make preseason games a little more enjoyable than usual.

Can not wait to see Zeke up close.

I expect Elliott to get only a few carries in preseason.

This reminds me of a post last year when Romo went down and some mook got on here saying the team was going to go 9-0 with Weeden and end up supplanting him.
That didn't really work out...

You're kidding, right?

If Romo can't stack up wins, why would he be allowed to continue? Dak was drafted to back up Romo. I'm just saying that backup may be needed sooner than most think.

You didn't see anything in my post about how well we would do without Romo. I just think Romo's job isn't as secure as most think.

Dak needs major work. He's not going to be ready in a year.

Having said that, thanks for answering my question. I highly disagree with you, but I appreciate the response.

I expect to see Zeke treated like a veteran in preseason. Running backs take so many hits, a veteran on an opposing defense will be looking forward to getting a hit in on the Cowboy's shiney new toy. Garrett is not going to risk him not going into the season at 100% because of something silly in preseason.

Should Moore be all that comfortable anyway?

I think he'll be plenty comfortable since I envision him watching from his couch at home. I still think we bring a vet into camp on a one year deal to backup Romo until they see what they have in Dak.

When you have poor QB talent like McGee and Showers it can be hard to have a productive practice. 2nd string players cannot run the offense properly or be thrown to accurately.

Who?

If a QB is still on the market, chances are they are not any good. We are going to be picking over players chose over by Matt Cassell's and Brandon Weeden's. Moore is our backup and he is better than anything on the market.

IMO---a "veteran" backup is a myth (maybe if you can land one that has been a successful starter like Hasselback). Your best bet is to go with someone younger with something to prove, someone young hoping to earn a big contract.

We'll just have to wait and see how Dak responds to being coached up as to how much work he really needs. I'd tap the brakes on the "major" notion. And Romo... he has some work to do himself or did you already forget how poorly he played in his last game? The breaking of his collarbone for the second time in a season was a merciful end to his efforts that game.

I fully support that kind of comfort for Moore. I'm not too sure about the bringing in a vet plan until we see how Dak responds to being coached up. Not even sure any viable vets will be available. Sam Bradford is a possibility but I'm not in favor of it.

So you don't think McFadden will have Zeke carry his shoulder pads? It happened to Dez. Do you remember the dinning out bill the vets stuck Dez with? Rookies get treated like rookies no matter who they are. Zeke is no exception.

playing poorly and getting injured are two different things. Romo was not playing poorly up until he got injured where Bledsoe was. When Romo stepped in to replace Bledsoe, it was the breath of fresh air this team needed after years of mediocrity at the position. Romo, although his "frailness" concerns me, has been playing at a high/elite level. The comparison you're trying to make just isn't there.

By team mates that is true. The coaching staff will likely not give him a lot of playing time in the pre season, thus treat him like a vet.

If Dak sees any substantial playing time before 2018, we will have a top pick in the draft to get a true QB. The kid has much work to do just to reach back up level in the NFL. Romo will have no fear of Dak every replacing him until Romo says he can.
