If and when a player is under investigation for any type of misconduct.
Be it internal by the NFL or external by outside agencies of law enforcement.

I want their contract status frozen.
No adjustments can be made till all investigations are finished.

This would be the Brady rule.

The NFL personal conduct policy needs a complete overhaul. Tying player's salaries and their livelihood to the the NFL's wacky policies would be dangerous. Heck, I don't think Zeke would have gotten a single dime with that approach. My thoughts are the NFL, on criminal matters, should align with law enforcement findings/outcomes. A player is innocent until proven guilty. Tying compensation to conduct should be a matter of contracts and surprised we haven't seen more of it. Seems black and white to me that if your off the field actions result in you not be available to play, you shouldn't get paid.

I'm not saying that the player can't be signed.
But to re-set a contract to get around a suspension and still get paid - ALA Brady - would be the reason for this.

my bad, totally misread your post. I wasn't really aware of this situation and have since read up on it. Yes, the way and timing of his contract restructure was a calculated, shrewd move that was completely aimed at reducing financial liability in the event of further suspensions, etc. I agree this situation should be looked at more closely. From a high level, the risk was moved from Brady to the Pats so not sure what they NFL could do or right they would have to interfere.

I'm with you on that one. Let's add one more, lack of production. I feel as though these player's should not get paid in one lump sum, but instead in their monthly 4 game production. To see kids coming right out of college (some not even finishing college becuz they're $ hungry) and becoming instant millionaire's is beyond comprehension. The NFL's Draft, Salaries, Conduct has gone out of control. Almost every month you hear about a player that has either abused someone, caught with drugs, drinking, guns etc... I feel Goodell should be fired.

Since he's been in charge, the NFL has become a complete circus. Goodell has daughters of his own, but yet he only gave Rice a 2 game suspension for doing the unthinkable in that elevator. Would Goodell of been that lenient had it been one of his daughters, of course not. It took the media to be all over him to charge Rice with more then just a slap on the wrist. This would be the Goodell Rule, but instead it's only wishful thinking!

I thought they got paid in 17 game checks and the bonus money came when they made the team.
But I could be off on that.

And he's a lawyer..:thumbdown::thumbdown::thumbdown:

Oh wow. hipfake was correct with the 17 week thingie. A minimum wage rookie makes $26,470.59 each week of the regular season. Now that's some serious coin. Never knew any of this. All I keep visualizing was Manziel flicking his fingers in the money motion when he was drafted. But, he's a silver spoon. Meaning he never took the NFL serious. Sadly, that kind of money gets the best kids in lots of trouble, and so on. Thanks much for the link. Great read.

I'm clueless. Have no idea. Although it does make sense.
off topic looking at the logos in your sig one would assume you live or have lived in PA for a long time due to the Phillies and Penn St. how in blue blazes did you become a cowboys fan. I will assume you grew up in Philly and went to Penn St. I know why you are not an Eagles fan but with the history of the Steelers and such one would not blame you for being a Steelers fan. If you did grow up in PA, it must have been tough being an Boys fan. I lived in Philly for 2 years and it was tough, well until the Boys destroyed the Kotite coached team in the playoffs.

LOL. Well my friend, your correct and I would be a millionaire if I received a dollar every time I was asked that. And "tough" is putting it lightly lol. It's excruciating.

Believe it or not, I was born in Germany. Came to the USA when I was just a wittle one lol. To make this story as short as possible, I never liked football. I recall my mom and I telling each other in German "how can they watch such nonsense, it doesn't make sense" when my Pop and rest of family were watching the Egals and other football games on a Sunday afternoon.

We stayed out of the family room lol. We use to hear lots of yelling and carrying on. My Pop took me to a lot of Phillies games when I was young, and thus became a huge fan. Even now, while they stink lol. Once a fan, always a fan, no matter what. It's in the blood. He NEVER EVER took me to an Egals game, don't know why & never asked.

As I grew older a friend of mine and I were sitting at a bowling alley lounge in Florida having a bite to eat. We over heard 3 old men talking about (this was in 1989) how great the Dallas Cowboys will be in a few years. Remember, this was the year Jerry purchased the team, Troy was drafted & a year later, Emmitt decided to forgo his senior year at Florida and enter the NFL draft, which for the first time in history allowed juniors to be eligible. At the time, I was still young, and not really into football, too much, a little, but not much. Had no clue who Troy was and how great he was at UC, Emmitt & this Jerry Jones guy who fired the best coach in Cowboys history.

These older men were talking up a storm and that day, I made up my mind and said to my friend who was a Bucs fan, "you know something, those guys make a lot of sense" and thus, in 1989 BEFORE the season had started, a new Dallas Cowboys fan was born. Only to watch my Cowboys win one game that year against the Washington Commanders. But dang, those old men were right, the Dallas Cowboys became great in that said amount of time.Three SB's in 4 yrs. Yes, I live in Egals country, but far from the nest lol.

I loathe the Philadelphia Egals. I stick to my 'Boys no matter what....and I work with ALL Egals fans. But, I stand my ground. Don't tell me how old our rings are, because I will tell you, they are NOT as old as that 1949 Championship ring of yours when only 10 teams were in the league. They have no clue what I'm talking about, because they're too young to know, or just don't know and run their mouth. But, it shuts them up quicker then I can say Super Bowl Rings.

And till this day, I give thanks to my Pop for never taking me to an Egals game and those 3 old men at the bar for turning me into an obnoxious, lights out Dallas Cowboys fan. My Pop, well, him and I argue now in that family room. :muttley:

The rules I want are 3.

1. All 60+ yd FGs are now worth 4 points......oh how this will change strategies.

2. Give both offenses a chance to score TDs in OT, even if the first offense scores. Make the 2nd offense go for 2.

3. Increase roster size to 60, and active roster to 52.

Now that would be exciting.

I'm good with 1, 3, and the first part of 2. I'm not good with the 2nd part of 2. I would be okay with it if you made both teams go for 2 (including the 2nd team even if the first failed).

I see your point, but if both make it, you have a tie. The first team can kick the PAT or go for two. The 2nd team goes for 2 if down 7 or can go for 1 if down 6. The point is, we are trying to eliminate tie scenarios.

Remember the coin toss decides who gets the ball first in OT.....
