One thing I like that Jerry is doing

One day you're going to realize that the reader wants to get to the MEAT and bones of a reply, not spend all day reading an entire book. You've got to really consider simmering it down so people can actually read your comments. I refuse to read all of this!!
I’ve learned how to speed read the posts. There’s a lot of repetition within a post, including repetitive repetition. Just quickly peruse and skip significant amounts.

I don't think they did a good job interviewing for the DC and HC positions last year. But since they promoted Schotty to HC I felt they did do a great job interviewing for the assistants and that looks like that has continued this year in search of a new DC.

Jerry Jones has no business hiring assistant coaches.

It would be entirely unfair to evaluate a HC that didn't hire his own assistants.

Who will be the DC's immediate supervisor? The head coach is entrusting half of his team to a DC he didn't hire.

Even if Schottenheimer "approves" of him, how do we know that he is sincere or would have wanted someone else?

Schotty I don't have a problem with. I think Schotty has been a solid coach for us, both as an OC and as a HC. Eberflus was a terrible choice. I'd love it if Jerry actually gets a good DC like Leonhard. That would be incredible.
I don't get it. You see what coaches like Johnson, Vrabal, Payton do for teams. And you see us at 7-9 and think, I like what Schottenheimer is doing. Make it make sense.

So, I had a thread ripping Jerry for how upset I am about the Texans situation and how I feel we should be better. However, I like to follow a negative thread with a positive thread.

One thing that I like that Jerry is doing is him being more proactive with the DC position. I like that he's interviewing coaches, and I like that there's a lot of good options. Honestly, to me, it looks like he's got some good lineups. Ohr, Leonhard (I'd love this), Morris (bad HC, but a damn good DC), Rex Ryan (out of the coaching game for a while, but he's good at defences), Whitecotton, and others? I'd love to see Flores and a few others on the list. However, I think this is good. I think Jerry is showing proactivity here.

I'm curious who we hire because I think that will be a signal of where we are going next. I hope that we will stay proactive and have an actual cohesive plan. I happen to think this team isn't as far from being competitive as it looks. I like what we've been building on the dt and nt spots. I love our offense (hopefully we can get our red zone efficiency better).

I think if we can get our defence sorted and get Aubrey back on track, this team can compete in 2026. I don't think it'll be SB caliber, but this is a big offseason that, if done correctly, can build us towards a great future. Or at least, I hope so.
I don't care WHAT Jerry says or seems to do. I'm going to wait for results...30 years and counting.

For one thing, I wasn't exactly expecting a great season from the team, especially after the Parsons trade. Furthermore, I can hardly blame Schotty for the defence. Vrabel, Johnson, and Payton have excellent defences. We do not. However, the offense was usually dynamic, and they had to be to have a chance. So, I think, with a better defence and especially a better DC like maybe a Leonhard, we won't be as pressed to make sure every drive counts. That allows a little more freedom for the offense. That said, if the offense can do what it did most of last year and be more efficient in the red zone, I think this team has the capability of being a more competitive team IF the DC is better. I think the team could be a contender IF the defence is at least solid.

I know that, but my frustration is that we could have a defence like that if Jerry would stop waiting forever to sign people we need to keep, we'd have more cap space to get our defence better, along with if he's trade players like Parsons before the draft.
We share in the same frustration, being asleep at the wheel that's Ol Jerry's way. I will have to give Ol Jerry credit though; he did turn the Micah fiasco into some of the best defensive tackle players; Dallas has had playing together on the same defensive line in years. How hard could it be to put some dawgs around this unit and get a defensive coordinator to make it work. Between free agency and the draft add some dawgs in the form of 2 new pass rushers 2 linebackers 2 safeties 2 corners, one that can play the nickel. But first hire Jim Leonhard to run it, that is what I would like to see.

Right, I have no problem with trading Parsons. It just should have been done before the draft. Now, a ripple effect is that it's going to make getting Pickens done harder. If Jerry had just traded Parsons before the draft, we probably get a lot more compensation when he realised he was getting nowhere with Parsons and we probably don't burn bridges with Pickens 's agent.

You should know by now that what Jerry says and what he actually does are separate things. Watch what he does and not what he says. He continues to do the same stupid things over and over. Why is this year any different?

I think it should be Schotty's choice. I think Schotty earned the right to make this decision, especially with Jerry hiring Eberflus before Schotty (as I recall).
Yes Jerry hired Eberflus before he gave the HC job to Schotty.

A HC usually choses his coordinators. But Jerry needs to push his ego. And thats not good.
Thats one reason people (well at least myself) view Schotty as just another Jerry puppet.
