Once again, the Eagles trophy case is filled with pre-season championships and paper titles.
This.
In fairness, Kelly in his first two seasons took a 4 win team and won 20 games with them (and a lot of those wins with Buttfumble at QB). It's only when they gave him control over the groceries that the restaurant imploded.
Oh and I'll leave this here as Exhibit A:
Even if he goes, his legacy will remain. He tied up all the team's salary cap in rejects and miscast players. He traded or cut all of the team's playmakers. His draft picks can't get on the field.
Frankly it reminds me of the start of the Campo years in Dallas.
If they blow up the roster there at the end of the year they will be able to move on - Not a monster CAP hit on Murry after June 1.What's the lifespan on the Demarco Murray era over there?
I like what Chip Kelly has done with the Eagles. Hopefully he has a long-term deal.
When was that?
You can tell by his moves that he didn't know what he was doing. Trading away Foles and 2 draft picks(4th and a 6th) for Bradford and a 5th rounder? You can tell there was something wrong there right away.
Nick Foles played very well in Chip's system, I was quite surprised when Chipper traded him away. I guess he wanted more mobility because Foles is a statue in the pocket, I don't see how else he could justify trading Foles.
Bradford is even less mobile.
Maxwell is looking like a modern Larry Brown at the moment.
The other side of these personnel moves that are backfiring is that they are not cheap.
If they get a real coach they might be a threat.
Say Chip Kelly is an offensive genius and keep a straight face. Bet you can't!!!
This just proves one thing. You can have a great scheme, and great players on offense, but unless you have an Oline, you can kiss it all goodbye.
So what is the moral of the story? Pay the line, not the skill position guys if push comes to shove. And of course you need both. So especially with RB, use the draft to keep them coming young, fresh, and cheap. QB's you have to pay. WR's you have to pay.
In Chip's case, though, it has been a catalog of errors.
1. Letting Jackson and Macklin go.
2. Trading McShady.
3. Thinking he could get it done on the offensive line with sub par talent.
4. Brought in a North South 1-cut RB and try to get him to run like Sproles.
5. Why hasn't he made any adjustments in his offensive approach to accommodate what he does have in terms of talent? For example, play Sproles more? Bench Bradford in favor of Sanchez who at least won games for him last year?.
6. The arrogance to think he could bring his system into the NFL from college and change the face of the game forever, despite the myriad of attempts in the past that eventually fell flat, like the Wildcat.
The list really goes on and on, but those are the top few that come to mind.
