Opinion: Greg Ellis wants to be a Patriot in '08?

Got this off of the PMB:

From Ask PFW on Patriots.com:

What two or three quality players that are unrestricted free agents do you Andy, Tom and Paul think take a reduction in salary to play in NE?
Mark L

One player to keep an eye is Cowboys OLB Greg Ellis. Following Dallas’ loss to the Giants, Ellis basically said he didn’t want to be a Cowboy anymore, suggesting Anthony Spencer should start next year in his place. I also had a source down in Big D tell me that Ellis wants to go to a Super Bowl contender and mentioned the Patriots as a team he would like to play for. Ellis would be a logical Belichick addition, a hungry veteran who will take less money to come to New England because he wants to win a Super Bowl. Not to mention that Ellis can still play and would really help the team at outside linebacker. Watch out for Ellis this offseason because he doesn’t want to play for the Cowboys anymore. That I know for certain.

Well if all it takes is to want to be on another team, then bye bye Ellis, hello Roy Williams.

I for one am sick of his crap. He was suppose to be a leader on this team, guess thats what might have been wrong this year when you have a whinner, cry baby leading your team.

I would make him stay as Spencer's backup. No way I would reward the guy by letting him go like he wants.

He got his "insurance and piece of mind" this year with Jerry taking care of things.

It's all good, let him walk...You want leaders on your team, not guys looking to get out...Tells you all you need to know really, sometimes he was on the radar screen in terms of pass rush and other times nonexistent.

Let em go

GE is willing to play for less money for a contender? You know he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Dependingon the truth of this, I'm still undecided. He's a good player and I would like to have him around, however if he wants out then let him go. Talent level doesn't matter, if you don't want to be here then you shouldn't be here - talent doesn't mean he will play well, if he's not happy here then he won't put forth 100% effort.

That is idiotic - Dallas is clearly as much as an SB contender for next season as any team.

Greg Ellis wants to play for a "Superbowl contender"? Earth to Greg - helllooooo! If you could log a sack or two in January - guess what? You're on one.

First, i dont like greg ellis whining either, i am all for trading him maybe you can get what miami got for welker, at least a # 2 pick, ,maybe a conditional 4-5 added in

then i would trade for jason taylor, i think he can help us like charles haley did for us in 92, you got to remember taylor was once feared, etc, in a new scenery, he might regain some of his stuff and help us like haley did in 92 and 93

your also by trading ellis sending a message, your not going to put us with all of the crap, complaining and nail biting, we all know how greg held out during the season when the trainers said he was ready to go, it took jerry jones going to his house and giving him extra money to play, that is crap,

trade greg ellis, but i wouldnt trade him to new england, i would let teams get a sniff that your thinking about trading him, get new england, denver and buffalo all interested, when you have more than one team talking trading for a player, you get more value, so thats what i would do,

That doesn't even make sense.

He wants to take a pay cut to play on a winning team, but he's unhappy being one of the cheapest starters on a winning team. I'm confused.

I'm not in favor of getting rid of Ellis no matter who annoying he can be because he produced on the field. However, if JJ did entertain the thought, what, realistically, could he get for Ellis who is on the wrong side of 30 BUT continues to be very productive?
