Terrible pass?

Great defensive play?

Great defensive play. Dallas had been burning the Giants on that same play all night this time the safety recognized the play and dropped into the passing lane at the last second. Romo said afterward he never saw the guy until the ball left his hand.

It was a safety not a corner and that play had no similarity at all to a zone blitz.
It doesn't matter if it was a corner or a safety, and I say that it was similar to a zone blitz only because the player looked like he was going to rush the passer only to drop into coverage at the last minute. This is, of course, not a zone blitz. No one disputes that. It is, however, similar to a zone blitz -- sufficiently similar to get across what happened visually on the field.

I think the SS was coming but reconized the play, as I said above Dallas had been killing them all night on this play with Witten slanting over the middle this time the SS sees it develop and drops back quickly to make the play.

Whether he recognized it and dropped back or if it was designed it was a pretty darn good play.

The reason I say he saw it devolving and reacted to it was because he was coming up to the line quickly at the snap and then changed direction and moved back into the passing lane once he saw Witten coming. Either way great play on their part.

I blame Jason Garrett largely on the playcall-instead of trying to run out the clock, he tried to get too cute.

BTW-why is everyone all of sudden trying to throw Romo under a bus? Now we're expecting him to be PERFECT the entire season?

Its only a good play when it works. Like playing numbers... someone says "thats a good number"... I say... only if it comes out:D

I don't see any blame, 2 teams are on the field both with professional players who can make plays in this instances the SS came up and made a big play for his team. As for Garrett I credit him for not going into a shell with over 7 min in a game

It was a simple question about one play in the game. Nobody is throwing him under the bus. I'm not sure why you perceive it that way.

I think you are being a little sensitive here, no one is throwing Romo under the bus, geez, just talking about 1 play.

No one would dispute Romo had a GREAT game. At least I do not think they would.

Yeah, I don't see anyone throwing him under the bus either. I thought it was a very good defensive play myself and that is why I asked the question of what others thought.

Some interceptions that you see , you think, what was he looking at and, at a quick glance, if anyone saw a quick replay, that is what they would think. But when you see the replays you see a DB sprinting back into the secondary to catch that pass. You don't see a DB do that very often!

You hit the nail on the head.

Garrett needs to/wants to shed the "play not to lose" mentality that was instilled in this team for the last 3-4 years. THIS is how you do it.

Once accomplished. We will need to develop a STRONGER running game. Somewhere down the road we will need to start milking the clock and shortening games... in effect leading to wins.

We may just have to accomplish the "strong" running game by passing first. Like we are doing. Somewhere along that line... the defense needs to find itself.

I am totally on board with Garrett changing the old philosophy.

We won that game despite Romo. He can't be making those types of plays if we expect to win. :D

It matters in understanding the play whether it was a corner or a safety.

Wilson was already in the box but got sucked in even closer to the LOS by the play fake. It never appeared that he was going to rush the passer then dropped off hence it never came close to a zone blitz or even a blitz fake appearance unless you don't understand the difference.

One thing I will say. After that pass, Romo was lights out. He really looked super focused and was not gonna let the game slip away.

It doesn't matter one bit if he was a corner or a safety. I thought he was a nickel corner from memory because was lined up so far out wide -- wider and closer to the LOS than a safety normally plays. It doesn't, however, change a single thing.

He was cheating up to the LOS as if he was about to blitz. During the play fake he kept on coming. Then he dropped into coverage. It's every bit like a zone blitz for the reason I stated. It got across visually what happened on the play and several posters noted that that is what they also saw.

Is it exactly what happened? Of course not. Is the right technical term? Of course not. Did it convey what happened visually? Of course it did. Don't be an idiot.

What's with all these cockamania threads today? First-TO was unprepared for last week by running bad routes, and nearly went balistic on the sidelines, and now Romo sucks just b/c he made ONE bad read?

What's next? Bench Demarcus Ware b/c he didn't record a sack last week?
