Opportunities and Decisions Regarding Trades

The Patriots' cutting of Hernandez made me think of an interesting scenario regarding trade scenarios. Before I say this, I am going to say that I am happy with the idea of the 3 tight end set and the theoretical mismatch it gives us with Witten, Hanna and Escobar, and personally, I would not trade any of these three guys for reasonable compensation.

Witten is not tradeable due to his cap hit, and we probably wouldn't trade Escobar, because it would take more than a first round pick next year to get us to trade him, so that probably wouldn't happen.

But what would happen if the Patriots offered us say a 2nd round pick for Hanna, or maybe a 3rd or 4th rounder for Rosario? Those would be hard decisions to make. Personally, I wouldn't let Hanna go shy of getting a 1st rounder for him, which they would never give to get him.

The Bengals came calling for Marty B and we passed. Would we pass again if we were offered a second for Hanna? I think we would and should pass. That is just me. Trading Hanna would mean we basically are shelving the 13 for the year.

Thoughts?

The Patriots are not going to offer a 2nd for Hanna. Don't forget they stole Jake Ballard from the Giants last year. As long as he returns healthy he should have a good year. They also have 4 or 5 other TEs on their roster already. They will either find someone already on the squad who will step up or they will sign a cheap veteran to help out. That team always finds a way to make things work on the cheap.
