Orowonko--LB

I see a very good football player but not a first round talent. He is going to need some time to develop but I'd love to have him on the team. He played well against top competition and stands out on the field every game. I'm of the mind that you don't have to always pick the the best player as long as you always pick players that are good at the game of football and this is one of those guys. I'm happy we got jourdan Lewis in the 3rd but I wouldn't be up set if we picked him in the first because he's a good football player that's worth picking. There are a ton of players not worth any pick but yet every year devin street types get drafted in every round.

I want Oko on the team, I'd prefer him in the second and like Lewis I'd be ecstatic if we got him in the third. If he was the pick at 19 I'd have reservations about the rest of the draft but it wouldn't be a bad pick just probably not the best pick. If he were the pick at say 31 and we get an extra second or maybe a third and fifth then I'd say it's a savvy pick and be excited to see what we do with the extra picks.

I don't think I'd pick him in the first, but I've long been an advocate of a scheme that uses a 4-3 and still utilizes a DE as a LB. Denver ran a 3-4 prior to Wade Phillips, and Von Miller was an OLB. Mathias Kiwanuka, a college DE who had 37.5 sacks at that level was the starting SAM on both the Giants recent SB teams, Bruce Irvin, another college DE who had 22 sacks in 2 seasons, was the SAM when they won the SB. And Peter Boulware, a college DE who racked up 34 sacks for the Seminoles was the SAM on one of the best 4-3 defenses of all time, the 2000 Ravens, who...won the SB.

I hope Kris Richards brings some of that element to the team. Maybe we could even try Tapper there. If Gregory were dependable, that would actually be a great role for him...sigh...
It took Bruce Irvin 4 seasons to get to 22 sacks then he left Seattle for the Raiders. Mathias Kiwanuka had 38.5 sacks total in his 9 year career.

I'd LOVE to get him in 2nd or 3rd....but with his athleticism,by draft day he'll be an option at 19 IF the perfect storm hits our draft board.
If we get wiped out...no Vea,Hurst,Smith,Edmunds,James,Brown,Wynn....he'd be an option I think.

Like I said I wouldn't hate him in the first, but picks 1-18 would have to all be on defense for him to be the best player available at a position of need in my mind.

Unless Rod retires or is willing to change kid is not really a good fit. Rod has had his chance to get innovative with Ware and Gregory but instead just lines them up on the tackle and plow away. Ware and Gregory were more like LBs than DEs you could of rushed them standing up or lined them up out wide of the tackle. I always wanted to see Gregory rush from a LB spot outside of Hardy never happened.

You could have some fun with OBO put Taco at RDE Irving at 3 get a true 1 then Lawrence at LDE and rush OBO from an ROLB spot. Let OBO and Lawrence sandwich the QB.

I am seeing some draft ratings that are taking him as a top 20 pick. I thought he would be a great find for us in the second or third round but that may be off the board. He may end up being the best, most physical linebacker in this class with some pass rushing ability on 3rd down.

He seems like a player that the Ravens would be all over. I havent compared him to other linebackers but he seems to have a pretty strong IT factor. I haven't seen a huge body of work but he might be a better pass rusher/run stopper than Smith, the on from Georgia. I don't know as a pass defender.

What do you guys think about him?

I want him - kid never quits. Plus, our Wonk could destroy their Gronk.

I see a undersized, poor technique type guy. Yes he has speed..but can he learn? I dunno if he's a fit. MAYBE round 2 if he slides for some reason. He would fit with what a team like the Jags do...in a rotation that relies on bodies.

I just don't see how this kid is not a 1st rounder if he tests well.

If he runs in the 4.6s with a solid split and 3 come, we're talking about a kid with 34 inch arms, natural bend and production against quality competition.

I think you’re going to see him rise when it’s all said and done.

He had a poor Senior Bowl..and got beat routinely in practices leading up to the game. Is he a good player? MAYBE. I want to see more first...lets see what he does at the combine.I never doubted his speed and skillset..but can he hone his technique and be a fast learner? The NFL is littered with talent like him,but many never can turn the corner and be great. At 19 I need a guy thats great..not MAYBE GOOD. Byron Jones is a prime example of what I'm saying. Never has lived up to his draft stock. I question his ability to get better. This year better be the year where he turns the corner.

He better. He has the potential no doubt..but potential gets many a coach fired in the NFL. We better do our homework on him. Round 2 I would sprint to the podium and take him...at 19..I just dunno. At 19 I want an absolute stud day 1,period. Tired of the word potential...JG has no time left for experimental players. Take Will Hernandez at 19 and call it a day.

Which is relevant to the player, not necessarily the role. I'm not advocating we sign either, just advocating the role, and all of the defenses mentioned did great things

He had a poor senior bowl? Wait, what?

"He’s getting knocks for his lack of size at 6’1, 240 lbs, but apparently the Dallas Cowboys are interested as they have already met with the young man. He helped himself in a big way notching four tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble. Four tackles may not seem like much but all four were for losses including the two sacks. The Cowboys took another speedy rusher from Oklahoma a few seasons ago in Charles Tapper, they just might fall in love with this prospect."

Tapper is better period. He will show out this year. I like the player, dont get me wrong, just not at 19. At 19 give me another pass rusher all day long(DAVENPORT). Or OG Will Hernandez.

Where would you play him in Marinelli's defense? Thats the problem.

Based off of what? He played a majority of his snaps inside at OK and has done practically nothing as a pro...

Where would I play him? If the scouting reports say he can play in space he'd be my SAM and nickel/dime RE.

To me he is a DE or 3-4 OLB. Using him as SAM is a waste of his talent. His biggest asset is passrush.

If you want a SAM LB then USC LB Uchenna Nwosu is my guy in 3rd round. Has a knack for finding the ball. 1 Int and 13 passes broken up last yr. Also can give you some pass rush.
