Kyle Orton - QB - Free Agent
Free agent QB Kyle Orton doesn't plan to retire and wants to play this season.

Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones says Orton was going to report to training camp. Apparently the Cowboys didn't want him there, and wanted him to retire, so they cut him. Brandon Weeden is Tony Romo's backup. Orton will try to find a job as a clipboard holder likely at some point near the end of summer.

Jerry did "um, uh" his way into mentioning something about Orton's "family" issues...

Apparently, he wanted to skip all the offseason work and just come to camp and Dallas said thanks but no thanks.

He was basically calling their bluff. He knew they would file a grievance over the bonus money if he didn't offer to show up.

There is a reason why Orton just never quite get to the top on any team...he never came clean with that team. As he never did in Dallas...

good riddance, and no, he couldn't qualify for the role of a hero now, no matter what.

They fined him when he didn't show up before. If he wanted to play in Dallas, he would have been there, and not eaten the fines.

He didn't want to play in Dallas, but didn't want to retire and be forced to pay back some of his signing bonus money. Cowboys didn't want him in camp being a distraction, and wanted him to retire in order to recoup some of the signing bonus money.

So, Orton gets what he wanted, and the Cowboys eat the signing bonus so he doesn't become a distraction in camp.

Well if that's the case then I guess Jerry didn't have a choice. I don't want anyone on the team that doesn't want to be here. It sucks though.

Both sides know that although he technically could be required to give back the bonus money, that the structure of the contract was such that the bonuses put his salary at 3.5 mill for each of the first two years. He was slated to earn 3.5 this year. So the bonus paid his first two year's of salary. I don't know that the team would even try to get that money back as it is more about a technicality than not getting what we paid for.

Kinda makes me wonder what is going on behind the scenes....Orton is just the latest player that is looking to get out of Dallas. Not sure if Orton just played the Ratliff card or if Orton had a beef with the coaches / organization or they had a beef with him. Either way seems coincidental that Brandon Weeden was picked up off the streets pretty quick and Orton suddenly let it be known he was NOT reporting.....there is more to this story than Orton or the Cowboy are letting the public know.

Maybe it was the elimination game against Philly last year...that last INT may have spoiled the relationship between coach and player........or..... owner and player for that matter.

So first he gets millions for no-showing, then he'll likely make millions more to sit on a bench (if he lands on a team)? Life really isn't fair sometimes...

He didn't get millions for now showing. He earned 7 mill for 2 years. His 2014 salary was about 3.5 mill. 3.5 mill per year. Get it?
