I was two digits on my phone pad away from upgrading to HD with DirecTv today but something I read concerned me.

Maybe someone who has it can help me out with a few questions before I make the jump. The first question is the one that is bugging me the most!

#1 DirecTv offer local channels in my area but they are not avaliable in HD yet. Will I still have to buy the darn antenna just to view my locals?

#2 Is it reall worth it. Is the picture quality that much better? I have a 61" HD Zenith with DLP technology.

BTW it's TOTALLY worth it. I had an HD tv for three years before I actually got an HD Reciever. I wanted to cry when I saw the picture over the wasted time.

I can't answer the first question.

But as for #2, it is beyond a doubt worth it. With a TV like that it is a crime not to have HD. You'll love yourself for it, it is just that much better.

Hey man, you still recieve all of your local channels just not in HD.

Not sure how well HD is at home, but it looks kewl on those fishing shows at Best Buy.

I would imagine in a city as big as Buffalo, your local channels would be available through DirecTV. Log on to theri website and check if the locals are available inyour area. I live in Show Low Arizona and I get a feed of the locals from DirecTV (they area all Phoenix channels, but around here that's local).

Another plus is that DirecTV is expanding it's HD content to include National Geographic (stunning vidoegraphy) and more movie channels this year. If you are still using cable, then it's timeto switch. The gouging has gone on for long enough.

Actually, DirecTV is adding more locals in HD every day. They just became available in Arizona this month.

If you already have the HD TV and setup, you are crazy not to upgrade.

HomeOfLegends, I have a 62" Mits DLP. As you know, Sunday Ticket is the only way to get to see the Cowboys every week. Last year IIRC, the Cowboys were not shown in HD a total of two weeks. This year, we can expect the Cowboys to be a choice for national games almost every week (and therefore will be in HD every week).

I checked on whether DirecTV offers (or will offer) HD local into local in the Buffalo area.

The Buffalo metro area is not on the list so you will need an OTA antenna to get HD locals. Depending on whether you are a long way from your local antennas this can be simple or more complicated. I am 50+ miles away from my area's broadcast antennas and I use a 'square shooter' which has accomplished most of what I needed. HD local into local is coming to my area in June so I have a "tech refresh" coming (I have to change antenna and receiver). PM me if you want more info.

I got HD a few weeks back, with a plasma tv. I really enjoy sports on it, but strange as it is, the non HD stations are not as clear as on my tube tv. Everyone I have spoken to says the same.
