Washington improved its chemistry this year, with the possible exception of a QB controversy introduced by drafting a QB so high.
- Swapping Coles for Moss hurt them, but you can't keep players that don't want to stay. This is a net negative in talent, but a boost in chemistry.
- Taylor's problems are a distraction, but if he plays he will continue to improve, and he was very good last year.
- Regardless of how silly he sounds when he giggles, Joe Gibbs is a great, great coach. He will drive that team nowhere but up.
- Jon Jansen is a player. His return will stabilize the whole OL.
- Portis is the real deal. He may not fit Gibbs' ideal for a grinding RB, but Gibbs has also used RB's like Joe Washington and Kelvin Bryant who could break big plays.
Negatives for Washington
- The reasons behind Washington's defensive ranking IMO were similar to those whcih artificially inflated the Cowboys defensive rankings in 2003. The offense did not stretch the field and so it skewed the defensive stats. Neither defense was stellar in sacks or interceptions, and these stats matter quite a bit.
- Coles.
- Pierce.
- Gardner-- not the loss of his talent, but the turnover his loss combined with Coles' loss represents. Not much will carryover from last year (maybe a good thing, but I'm marking it a negative because I only wish Washington ill
)
- Ramsey takes too much time and is innacurate. His playing is a waste of time.
- IMO, Lavar Arrington is the most overrated player in the NFL, possibly in NFL history. He is a posturing windbag and a personal foul waiting to happen. That he is guaranteed a position on defense and never has to earn it makes the entire defensive unit worse.
- Just my opinion, but Springs and Marcus Washington will backslide big time this year, especially should Washingon's offense improve and teams actually decide to seriously pass against Washington.
- No grinding RB. From this position flows the identity of Gibbs' offensive teams. They need to find one.
