I agree with most of the post on their boards... They aren't switching to the 3-4, they didn't have a big need at guard, and they are fairly set at CB and outside linebacker.

I'm not sure why they would want to switch with us?

ROTFLMAO... so, ol' Art thinks the Skins had the better team going into the offseason, does he??

Talk about drinking the burgundy Kool-Aid... Art seems to think the Skins were THIS close to being Super Bowl contenders last year... never mind that they haven't even sniffed the playoffs in the best part of forever, and haven't even been an over-.500 team in a very long time...

Which is just one more reason why we should avail ourselves of every opportunity to laugh at that jagoff...

Actually I think his takes were ok.
Sure he has those wonderful oversized homer glasses on but for the most part I agreed with his takes.

The logic behind Art's take is reasonable if homeristic; some of the other takes are full on comedy worthy of blue collar tour status IMO.

A few quick points:
1. Bledsoe may not be a great QB but he is better than anything they will toss out this year. Henson was rated much more highly than Campbell as a prospect. We'll see long term who is better but the edge right now goes to Dallas with ap roven NFL QB who has been to the SB with BP not a rookie who Gibbs "saw something" in. Gibbs "saw something" in Brunell too.

2. Adding as few picks and free agents as they did was never even mentionned beyond the gloss over we were better to begin with nonsense. No they werent better to begin with. They were pretty much the same not markedly better or worse. At least before this off-season. Now they are markedly worse.

3. Any non-Commander team in the NFL would take Ware and Spears over Campbell. Doesn't matter about the makeup of the teams polled. Thats 2 fairly certain defensive starters over a project QB. Campbell had 2 offensive backs rated alot more highly then himself. Ware and Spears were the best players on their teams by far. But add to that Kevin Burnett and the depth of the Dallas draft and it gets silly.

4. Dallas didnt lose any talent. The Skins did.

In the end the homerism by some there is well hidden by the bait and switch tactics employed to make it seem reasonable but it isn't. The quoted OP is absolutely correct in the sense anyone with a drop of common sense would prefer the Dallas off-season to the Commander off-season. Thats why Dallas is getting A's from all the pundits and the Skins are getting D's from even their local beat writers. Its so bad they are warring with the Washington papers.

I would like to add one thing that really works for both of our teams IMO.

We needed an infusion of talent, a offseason where Bill said no more being cheap and saving money, letting Jerry go out there and pay the big bucks to bring in some people.
We were too wimpy with the money and to scared to get into the offseason deals last season and it hurt us.

HOWEVER at the same time I would imagine if some were long time skins fans they would want some better players signed but at the same time to not see Danny boy run out and play fantasy football or collect a player and really over pay like they have the last few years with little to no chemistry has to be a welcomed change for the long time skins fans with a realistic head on their shoulders. It looks like they MAY have finally figured out to settle down with the deions beyond the prime, the over paying of Trotter, not giving smoot more then they wanted......of course the trade to get campbell is still a questionable move and the whole scenario leading up to it in the media....but still I would think they have to have a little sigh of relief that danny did not throw more money out and hurt their future cap situation even longer by taking the hits on coles and not over paying smoot.

Besides the Campbell situation (leading up to the draft) I think they have finally showed some responsibility and figured out a few things. Coles may have hurt them cap wise but it was the right move to get rid of him IMO, not going nuts signing players to outrageous contracts (like bidding against themselves as the had in the past) and so on.

even if they do have a better team going into the offseason (which is likely, but cannot be proven) it wasn't as significant of a difference to suggest they would prefer theirs. Our offseason would have got them a legitimate pass rush, two more experianced replacements for smoot, and kevin burnett to take pierce's place. THey have adequate gaurds (though they overrate them, along with their OL as a whole) so they probably didn't need rivera. Jason ferguson matched up with griffin would have been dominant.
I guess they would trade casey rabach for all of that. LMAO, man do they know how to spin things, of course, they have had almost 12 straight years of needing to do so.

I could buy this take had they:
a. Kept the "core" Commander players.
b. Had Portis and Taylor in Wash working all out off-season.
c. Accepted Coles buyback of his bonus and made him a free agent while recouping that cap cash they so badly need instead of ending up with an inconsistent joey galloway type who wants huge bucks himself.
d. Weren't looking at whom to cut to pay Rogers and Campbell their rookie contracts.

I agree they didn't need to go out and buy guys. But they needed to keep Smoot at the least if not 3 or 4 more of those guys. They needed to not get desperate and trade up when they have such a lack of young draft picks on the team.

Washington improved its chemistry this year, with the possible exception of a QB controversy introduced by drafting a QB so high.

- Swapping Coles for Moss hurt them, but you can't keep players that don't want to stay. This is a net negative in talent, but a boost in chemistry.

- Taylor's problems are a distraction, but if he plays he will continue to improve, and he was very good last year.

- Regardless of how silly he sounds when he giggles, Joe Gibbs is a great, great coach. He will drive that team nowhere but up.

- Jon Jansen is a player. His return will stabilize the whole OL.

- Portis is the real deal. He may not fit Gibbs' ideal for a grinding RB, but Gibbs has also used RB's like Joe Washington and Kelvin Bryant who could break big plays.

Negatives for Washington

- The reasons behind Washington's defensive ranking IMO were similar to those whcih artificially inflated the Cowboys defensive rankings in 2003. The offense did not stretch the field and so it skewed the defensive stats. Neither defense was stellar in sacks or interceptions, and these stats matter quite a bit.

- Coles.

- Pierce.

- Gardner-- not the loss of his talent, but the turnover his loss combined with Coles' loss represents. Not much will carryover from last year (maybe a good thing, but I'm marking it a negative because I only wish Washington ill ;) )

- Ramsey takes too much time and is innacurate. His playing is a waste of time.

- IMO, Lavar Arrington is the most overrated player in the NFL, possibly in NFL history. He is a posturing windbag and a personal foul waiting to happen. That he is guaranteed a position on defense and never has to earn it makes the entire defensive unit worse.

- Just my opinion, but Springs and Marcus Washington will backslide big time this year, especially should Washingon's offense improve and teams actually decide to seriously pass against Washington.

- No grinding RB. From this position flows the identity of Gibbs' offensive teams. They need to find one.

Washington lost their leading tackler from a year ago, to a division RIVAL. They lost their #2 corner, but replaced him with a rookie that could be just as solid, so that balances out. Arrington and Taylor have their question marks. They gave up Coles, a guy they paid HUGE money to a few years ago, for a guy thats had one season with more than 50 catches. They lost their 1st round pick for next year, to get a guy to replace their 1st round QB of only a few years ago? Im not sure what all the excitement is about, but id be pissed if my team took a 1st round QB one year, then replaced him 2-3 years later. And all of a sudden, Campbell is their future star? Hmm. Ok Charger fans, help us out here. Anyone think the Chargers would love to go back and take Roy Williams (WR) instead of Philip Rivers? Friggin Skins fans :)

Dude, we have sniffed the playoffs once since '2000, haven't won a playoff game since '96, and have been 6-10, 5-11, 5-11, 5-11 four of the past five years.

I don't really feel like bragging just yet, or laughing at anybody.

The Commanders have had what, one playoff year? Same as us.

True, they have skirted .500 most years, while we went 5-11 for three straight.

To me, three games does not mean a thing. Trophies are all that matter and we have the last one. :)

The point of contention here is that fellows like this delusional Art person tend to think that Washington has been vastly superior to us and only due to crooked referees, bad hair days, and walking under ladders the night before a game are keeping Washington from a Lombardi. Fact is, things could not be further from the truth.
