Artest will have plenty of time to promote his Rap CD.

Well... the Pacers had a nice team... it's over now for them... those are big time suspensions... and well-deserved IMHO...

That being said... these facilities need to do something about the rogue fans...

Not harsh enough imo.

Jackson should be out for the year also. He was the one who kept the thing going calling the pistons on like a stupid thug.

The fans involved should have their season tickets revoked and not be allowed back in the arena for a long time.

Artest, Jackson, O'Neil, and the detroit fans involved have zero respect for the game after doing something stupid like that.

Wallace is getting off cheap imo....6 games?

That whole thing was a disgrace. I never would have thought O'Neil would do something stupid like that. Artest...yeah, Jackson....no doubt, but O'Neil was a shock to me.

Ugly situation.

I could care less about either team... but Wallace didn't go into the stands... that is a harsh suspension as well... but pales in comparison to the others...

Something has to give at some point... I agree with the revoking of season tickets for the fans... the NBA ticket-holder is too close to the action... but the NBA hails the celebs like Spike and Jack being close... and their jawing with the players... they should be gone as well... but it will never happen...

I have been a bit repulsed by some of the players views that the fans deserved it... a couple of those fans were trying to stop it...

I agree not long enough. Now I hope the cops go after some of the fans. Players don't go into the stands and fans don't throw items onto the court or at players.

couldn't happen to a better guy. That guy is trouble and needed to be dealt with... I personally think they didn't do enough, but being out for the rest of the season is a good start... at least until the criminal charges get filed

that is total BS the rest of the season is too much and 30 and 25 is too much too especially for Oneal who jacked that dude up while he was in the court, David Stern is just covering his arse trying to make people feel safe and ish like that, the fans can do whatever they want and no one can do nothing about it.

many have not... in fact... most have not...

When you antagonize your opponent... you antagonize the fans...

Were the fans wrong? you bet your ace... and I think little or nothing is being made of the fan that came on the floor... he got a well-deserved ace-kicking...

But going in to the stands is too much... PERIOD...

If these guys would just play basketball and quit attempting to punk their opponent and the fans... things would be much less volatile...

if someone comes up to me and throws me his beer you bet i am going to kick his arse, if Artest wasnt laying on the scores table he would have been held just like ONeal got held and it wasnt that hard a foul but in no case should the fan throw thing at players just like in the Ranges vs A's game where the pitcher threw that chair but since he is the player he is a target i bet you that the fans will not get even jail time and that

That sucks for Pacers fans. They buy season tickets and David Stern rips their title hopes away just like that. I doubt that the moron who threw the beer and started the whole thing in the first place suffers any penalties.

He attacked the wrong fan for one - someone that was sitting in the area, but not the one that threw the beer.

And there is a big difference between a paper cup w/ beer and a "professionally" trained and physically fit mans fist.

The fan was wrong and he should have criminal charges pressed for assault also.

But there is never an excuse for going into the stands and taking matters into your own hands.. that is what security and law inforcement personel at the games are for.

David Sterns didn't do it... the players that went up into the stands did it. Season ticket holders should be angry at Artest, ONeil, Jackson, Wallace and the other players that were brawling.. and the fan that threw the beer too.

Either tighten security or take the beer out of the arena

You are right about that... he was going in to get the guy that threw the beer on him... instead he hit a guy sitting there with a full beer...

Bill Walton on ESPN this morning had some interesting things to say... he was broadcasting the game for ESPN:

"It is an absolute priveledge and honor to play in the NBA... most of these players don't seem to realize that"

"This game is played for the fans... not for the NBA not for the players not for the owners but the fans"

"David Stern was too lenient... the suspensions should have been stiffer"

"These players need to start worrying more about playing basketball they are priveledged"

"I have been involved with the NBA for 30 years now and I have been called a lot worse than these guys have... and still am... but not one time have I ever considered going into the stands after a fan"

"This is not just the lowest point in NBA history... this is the lowest point in American sports history"

This is what it costs the big losers:

Artest: $ 5,400,000
O'neill: $ 4,500,000
Jackson: $ 1,700,000
Wallace: $ 435,000

Those are some big time fines...

I look at it like this:

It would be damn hard not to retaliate as a player in that situation. However, they get paid friggin millions not too. That is part of their deal. Play hard and don't do anything detrimental to the team. It' really that simple for me. Right or wrong, players agree to this when they sign their name to a contract.
