With the majority of the media focusing on “The Player”, it’s easy to overlook how likable this team is. Our stars are all pretty humble, and our young stars seem to have their priorities straight.

Our young nucleus is made up of Jason Witten, Marion Barber, Julius Jones, Tony Romo, Patrick Crayton, Andre Gurode, Leonard Davis, Marco Colombo, Marcus Spears, Chris Canty, Jason Hatcher, DeMarcus Ware, Bobby Carpenter, Bradie James, Anthony Spencer, Terence Newman and Roy Williams. Not a bad apple in there, and most of those guys would rather play than talk. If anything, we could use a yapper just to keep it exciting.

That’s what makes TO such a contrast. In some strange way, I don’t want TO to raise the Lombardi Trophy in triumph, regardless of the team. He’s such a shining example of what we as a society will tolerate in exchange for physical prowess.

I can see why some fans are completely turned off by big money sports and would prefer to watch high school or college football. I’m not one of them, watching the best of the best outweighs any conflicting feelings I have about the personalities involved.

That’s what makes this team a bit difficult. On one hand you have stars like DeMarcus Ware and Terence Newman, who work hard, stay out of trouble, and from all the anecdotes I hear, are generally nice guys. On the other hand you might have the most self-promoting, selfish player in all of sports. So the sooner we can replace TO’s production the happier I’ll be.
What do you guys think?

T.O. getting arrested for fighting
T.O. arrested for hitting stripper
T.O. arrested for have an arsenal in his home
T.O. crying about players being brought in to replace him
T.O. shooting up a night club

Oy vey!

If watching the best of the best outweighs any conflicting feelings you have about the personalities involved ,then why are you subjecting yourself and others to such non-sense?

Likable shmikable. Charles Haley was about as likable as a sewer rat. I seem to remember the Cowboys getting to a couple Super Bowls with Duane Thomas, maybe the most UNLIKABLE player in NFL history. The final results of the TO era will judge if he was worth it. A Lombardi shuts everyone's mouth on the subject.

I completely agree with the article. I would rather lose without Owens than win with him, but I guess that's just me.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

I'd rather win.

Period.

The extent to which Owens contributed to our 9 wins last year is debatable, but it would take a pretty despicable person for me to take the ridiculous stance you've taken above.

Being a complete *** and a moron don't quite qualify TO as despicable, though.

Actually, TO is quite likeable .. when you're feeding him the ball.

I am just too old to be repeating myself over and over, and my typing is laborious to boot; so here it is, a regurgitation of my response on another board. Sue me.

Quite simply disagree. The author of "this" article is no doubt working on another article at this very moment that he will post just before Michael Irvin is inducted into the Hall Of Fame, explaining why the guy is so undeserving of the honor due to his big mouth, me first attitude and his criminal off field behavior.

Compared to Irvin- Terrel Owens is as squeaky clean, law abiding citizen as you could ever ask for. Show me ONE time the man has violated the law? He hasn't, but I suppose that is lost in the translation some how??

That big mouth of Terrell's? Seems to me that we could use a few big mouths on the defensive side of the ball too. It is called confidence, arrogance or simply in your face. You pick the adjective, we need some of it- whatever the name.

In the locker room? Is he a cancer?? If Charles Haley was a cancer then so is Owens. Fact is that they each came to Dallas from a bitter rival and each had endured questionable treatment from their former teams... each came with a chip on their shoulder... but the chip was reserved for others and NOT for their team mates.

What EXACTLY must we in society tolerate for the sake of a great athlete, that physical prowess? Must we suffer spousal abuse? Womanizing? Drugs? Alcohol? Gunfire in the night? Felony assault on the playing field? Dog fighting?? All of these are true enough and none of them have ever been mentioned in the same breath as Terrell Owens.

How about a guy who wants a new contract? Does that make him evil? Like Briggs? Like Emmit Smith perhaps? Terrell didn't hold out for a new contract. Instead he went out and was posting a career year by way of demonstrating his displeasure. The EAGLES and Donnie McNabb's insecurities were the ones who turned it into a fiasco.

I became a fan of Owens despite myself (yes, it was the star thing that stuck in my craw) when the man came back from a supposedly season ending injury to return and play his heart out for his team in the Super Bowl. Had the Eagles won the game, he was a shoo in for MVP that day, and any football fan worth his salt will recognize it and admit it.

I am doubly happy to have Owens as a Cowboy. A man with his honesty (honest to a fault if you ask me) and that kind of toughness, that kind of love for the game, that kind of spirit... well, every team could use one, or two if they are lucky. What was it that Tony Romo said of Terrell Owens in the weeks following the Seattle loss? 'Nobody was more supportive of me, a better friend to me after that happened, than Terrell Owens.'

I suppose there are those here who believe that Owens is some sort of a monster, to them I say; learn a little more for yourself and listen a little less to what others would have you believe. And please, don't take my word for it- do a little research for yourself. Once you do that much, once you learn a little more about the man, then Terrell Owens will have won another fan.

Deservedly so, I might add.

I still don't like TO and never have. I've even met the guy and it hasn't changed my opinion.

And I would welcome for him to be shipped out of hear if we ever got a worthy replacement.

But he has grown on me, he blocks, he goes all out. Him not getting a pro bowl bid was stupid. And if he helps us win I like the guy, hes a Cowboy right now and I will support anyone that wears the star.

On defense, I think Ken Hamlin will fill the "yapper" role.

On offense, of course, it's all TO all the time, whether he actually says anything or not.

Everything TO does at this point is totally overblown. The media is incapable of giving him any credit whatsoever. What if Marvin Harrison played the season with a messed up hand. They would give him so much credit and ignore every drop by blaming it on the hand. I have absolutely nothing against TO at all. What did he do as a member of the Cowboys that would make me hate him? He played hurt and was better than any reciever we've had since Michael Irvin.

You're just saying that to grandstand and look like some kind of martyr. Why else would any sane person ever want their favorite team to lose instead of win? That's just ridiculous.

I bet you weren't campaigning to get rid of Mike when he was showing up in hotels with mounds of cocaine and hookers.

What has TO really done that's so terrible besides look silly in front of the media? Jeff Garcia, pft. Mcflabb? He's so fake. TO just makes plays and lives to be an athlete. You can't deny that, whether you like him or not.

i can actually understand this view to an extent. my father, a retired army officer, feels the same way. he started watching and rooting for the cowboys for not only the success on the field but also because of the way the guys carried themsleves off of it. In his mind, obeying the law is not enough to be a man of character.

He still blames Henderson's big mouth as a prime reason we lost Superbowl XIII.

Now i dont necessarily agree with that but i can certainly understand it.
