My little brother found this out the hard way as well... He would just shove q-tips in his ear relentlessly until one evening he scratched his ear drum with one... Well he did it just the right way and it threw off his equilebrium (sp). He went to the ER after passing out twice and while examining him they had to do a RECTAL EXAM..... They said it was to make sure there wasnt any internal bleeding.... I know this may seem far fetched from just a scratch but its 100% true... Needless to say when the Dr. came in and said he was going to have to check him for that I couldnt hold my laughter in..I was crying from laughing so hard.. Ive told everyone I know about this and cant wait to bring it up at his wedding... I love this story...

So go ahead use those q-tips all you want. Im sticking to bobby pins and ear wax removal.:lmao2:

Man. Talk about taking the long way around................Good thing he didn't "fall" on the Q-tip we could be talkin' frontal lobotomy. Sheesh.

Well, he's not very informed is he?

The only thing that you shoud try and clean your ears with is your elbow...try that!

If you need to clean your ears, buy some wax removal from the drug store...and NEVER put anything in your ears...well...except your elbow...if you can.

I have a partial hearing loss in my right ear precisely because somebody DID try to fit as much of his elbow in my ear as he could...

It was on the basketball court, I was a freshman in college, playing intramural basketball... at 5-9, I was generally the shortest player on the court, and whenever I had to switch on a bigger player, that player would almost always take me down low, try to post me up... on the occasion in question, the guy missed the short jumper, I went to try to rebound, and my team's power forward came down with the ball, swinging his elbows as he was wont to do in those situations...

Caught me square on the ear, formed a partial seal, and when the elbow came away, it ruptured my eardrum (a partial tear)... the eardrum healed with some scar tissue, making it less sensitive to vibrations, thus the hearing loss...

So the moral to this story is don't even try to fit your elbow in your ear... :D

I use a hairpin to dig out the wax. It works great.

A small flathead screwdriver would be even more efficient... or even a good Swiss Army knife... :D

I bet you don't have any children. Why do you think Q-tips are made exactly? To clean the ear.

...are just a trade name for cotton swabs. They were designed for the medical industry to swab wounds clean. Never for internal use. If you take a look at the original cotton swab, and you still see them in hospitals they are typically 6-8 inches long with the cotton batting coiled around one end.

Medical personnel use them to dip into a solution then swab an area clean.

They are not intended for ears.

I use Q-tips to clean the outside and inside of my ear on a daily basis. At my last physical the doctor was examining my ears and said, "wow, you have the cleanest ears I have ever seen!" Been doing it for years w/out any problems. Must be a technique thing.
