Our would have been the 20th pick -- unless San Diego reaches the Super Bowl, then it would have been the 19th.

These are the Cowboy draft picks for 09:
The Cowboys gave up first-, third- and sixth-round picks for Williams and got a seventh back, all for 2009.
The team got two picks back with the Jones suspension and sent one to Detroit.
The team will have a total of nine picks (no first, one second, one third, two fourth, two fifth, a sixth and two seventh).
Below is the team's breakdown:
ROUND ONE - 0

To Detroit for Roy Williams

ROUND TWO- 1

Dallas

ROUND THREE - 1

To Detroit for Roy Williams
Cleveland (Acquired in 2008 Draft Day trade)

ROUND FOUR - 2

Dallas
Detroit (Acquired in 2008 Draft Day trade: for Dallas 2008 R3 pick)

ROUND 5 - 2

Dallas
Tennessee (As a result of Adam Jones 2nd suspension)

ROUND 6 - 1

To Detroit for Roy Williams (Tennessee contingency cancelled as a result of Adam Jones 2nd suspension)
Miami (Acquired in 2008 Ferguson Trade)

ROUND 7 - 2

Dallas
Detroit (Acquired in Roy Williams trade)

We have a pick in every round except the first. I don't know why people make such a big deal about this Roy Williams trade. We didn't give up as much as people try to make it out to be. People act like we gave up 2 1sts, a 2nd and a 1st in 2010 or something like that.

Would have been a decent one. Perhaps we can trade back into Round 1? Jerry Jones is all about wheeling and dealing on draft day.

We'll also get two comp picks, probably a fifth and a sixth.

Considering a lot of quality players are found in mid-rounds (Tashard Choice), I think we'll be fine.

I said we gave up a 1st, 3rd and 6th. How is that acting like anything else?

And what does having extra picks have to do with it. We still are out a 1st, 3rd and 6th and all we have to show for it is a rarely used WR who runs bad routes.

And those picks are not taking into consideration some of the comp picks we'll get for Nathan jones, Julius Jones, and it seems like we lost one other FA that went on somewhere else that we should get a comp pick from.

We could easily wind up with 10 or 11 picks in this draft, still, so if there is something there in the later stages of round 1 that Dallas really wants they'll be able to move up and get the player.

Plus, we probably will get around 2 comp picks in the coming Draft.

We still have a ton of picks, and Tom C. did a fine job last draft.

We just need to stick with the approach we have been using the past few seasons with regard to drafting.

Disregarding which players might be available, I'd rather trade up for another second-round pick. The cost of trading up for a first-rounder and the money he would cost aren't as good of a value as the second-round pick would be, and you generally can get a player just about as good, on average.

What I'm hoping for from a personnel standpoint is that in FA we can find

1. a massive NT (get rid of Tank) and move Ratliff to DE

2. 1 ILB. I don't think Z Thomas is going to hang around, and Burnett is a FA and may not be re-signed.

3. Pick up 1 Safety.

4. Get 1 decent back-up QB and sever ties with B Johnson.

In the Draft, we can then do whatever we want. Probably draft another 2 LBs, another Safety, a couple of OL, a young QB to groom, etc.

Especially when you consider we have 4-5 first rounders who are role players/backups.

Our 4's have been more successful than our 2's recently.

I could easily see us trading down and trying to add 2's-4's next year and then using them to possibly move up in one.

People are expecting this to be a deep draft with a ton of underclassmen coming out (possibly a record number).

Guy we get at bottom of two (our pick), top of 3 (Cleveland's pick) or top of 4 (Detroit's pick) could all be very similar talent-wise.

Yep ... which means completely ignore the WR and QB positions.

We wanted to draft Booty this past draft, but Minn beat us to him.

I think our drafts have been much, much better the past few years.

Uh by doing your little head banging thing. Can you at least let the trade play itself out first instead of judging on half a season with a WR. Also 6 games to play with Romo at QB. Let him go through an entire training camp and full season to see what he does.

And as far as the extra picks, I mentioned that because having those extra picks softens the blow of trading those picks away. The Cowboys had the luxury of doing that and still have extra picks.
