After watching Thursday night's Titans/Steelers game and then watching the Bears/ Packers game last night I came away wishing we played defense with the attitude those guys play with. It seems that their players were all trying to beat the other guys to the ball and when they got there they delivered big blows and punished the offense.

I just don't see our defense play with any kind of toughness or attitude. When we "tackle" a running back we grab at the ankles and let him drag our linebackers 3 to 4 yards down the field (watch Cadillac Williams completely destroy Ken Hamlin in the first quarter). And then throw in our complete lack of ability to create turnovers (the Packers had half our season's total in their first game alone). Don't even mention how Cutler threw the ball right to them, we played our share of bad QBs last year and still couldn't get INT's.

Don't get me wrong. I'll take the win and acknowledge that we did just enough on defense to do that, But with all the high draft picks spent on defense over the years (not to mention hiring a defensive coordinator as a head coach) I expect a hard hitting, turnover creating defense that strikes fear into the opponent.

Unfortunately our defense reflects the personality of the head coach. We just try to stay positive and try not to hurt anyones feelings.

At least Wade came in to fixed the D.

I guess the Ravens have no toughness either cause they, you know, gave up leads to Pittsburgh, late, on 2 of their 3 games last year, and yesterday let an offense of the same ability as Tampa Bay score 24 on them and slice and dice them.

So does this mean that Ravens fans should be jumping up and down calling for the end of their HC right now as well?

Baltimore gave up 188 total yards. We gave up over 400.

I am going to agree with you..only because I know how other zoners can be on guys that call the team out after a WIN. But you made a point I have been making forever.....we give the defense our first round pick EVERY year. Right now DeMarcus Ware's agent is probably negotiating the richest contract for a defensive player in the history of the NFL. Newman was a top 5 pick and has gotten 2 BIG contracts....Hamlin got a big contract....Jenkins, Spencer, Spears, Carpenter are 1st rounders. We are currently paying Ratliff like a first rounder in his draft class. Olshansky got a big contract. Bradie James got a contract that Parcells complained he did not deserve. Roy Williams was a top 10 pick that got 2 big contracts in Dallas. Canty, even though the Cowboys did not give it to him...got a big contract. These guys want to be paid like they are the Steelrs or Ravens on defense...but I just don't see dominance and nastiness.

And I am ELATED with the win....but at some point, I want to trust that this defense is going to dominate teams...and the way this season has started, it looks like we are going to have to outscore teams again.

Sorry, but you have to mention that. That was one of the worst QB performances I've ever seen from a so-called top-tier QB. Throwing off his back foot into traffic, repeatedly, when he wasn't even pressured... Just incredible.

And I like how one play of Cadillac vs. Hamlin means everything. Cadillac is a hell of a ballplayer when he's healthy. How about the plays of Spears and Bowen nearly breaking Leftwich into little pieces with him dragging himself off the ground holding a different body part play after play? Or Sensabaugh about blowing himself up hitting that receiver? Or for that matter, the goal line stand at Pitt last year?

I'm not saying we played great yesterday because we obviously didn't. I personally don't think we have great talent on D, either. But we aren't as "soft" as everyone says.

Oh, and we're the only team that ever uses first round picks on defense. Other NFL teams aren't allowed to do that.

long drives eat clock though.

They can go from their 1 to our 1 and it still won't matter if they don't score. That was my point. Our defense will play better, Wade is a GREAT D coordinator and I wouldn't be surprise that we beat up on the Giants this Sunday on the backs of a strong defensive effort.

However, the haters will continue to hate because that is what they do and that is what they are good at.

The defense should play with intensity every game and no excuse for giving up that much to a crap team.Wade has been here a long time now.

It does matter if that happens in the 4th quarter and the team is winning and there's 10 minutes left and they just run out the clock on us. Let's also be realistic I don't think our D can stop anyone once they get to the 1 yard line.

And Wade has coached a lot of great defenses over the years. He will get this group going.

Hoge said that "TB thrashed the Dallas front seven yesterday" ........not good. That's where the main issue is IMO; the front seven: just not good enough: Olshansky will be a BIG downgrade.

Crap team? They were 9-7, same as us. In your opinion, are we a crap team?

It's not as if this is his first year with the team. This is the third season. When a team fires their OC during the pre season then turns around and puts up 450+ yards and 21 points on Wade. Makes you wonder.

They also fired their OC in the pre season. Fired their HC from last year got rid of their starting QB from last year. But ya know don't let facts get in the way of an agenda.

Defense played poorly yesterday, I know it, you know it and yes Wade knows it. He is a very good DC and has a clue as to what this unit needs to do and I'm sure they will look to make the improvments.

Let me add yes they had 21 point with the last 7 coming in garbage time when the game was already put away.

Dude, you funny. Nothing you stated makes them a crap team. In fact, by not having any current film on their offense, having a dangerous RB trio that featured a healthy Cadillac, and a formidable WR/TE tandom, makes them even less of a crap team.

That's true but that doesn't mean you allow them to drive on you just because the game is out of reach have some pride at least.

IF someone from the cowboys org told you that grass was blue and the sky was green you'd believe it. Yes all of that **** makes them a crappy team. Our HC has more coaching exp then the age of their HC yet this goru defensive coordinator fails to stop such a terrible offense. Caddilliac looked like he was a rookie again b4 2 knee surgeries.
