Back on point: Arnez Battle was the only Niner receiver to catch a pass against the starting Cowboys defense, and -- as I recall -- he was being covered by Terence Newman. Furthermore, the catch was of the spectacular diving variety.
Is it too much to ask for a corner that can prevent catches of the spectacular diving variety?

I saw Jenkins make two outstanding open field tackles and give up one pass completion.

I saw Scandrick give up one completion, where he had blanket coverage and it took a perfect throw to complete it.

I missed the part about these two guys looking bad.

It's funny....the guy giving up the most completions was Newman. But it was in that blasted zone at the end of the half.

Why? Why a zone?

And I care what the majority opinion is? Why, because majority is always correct? Like I said, keep banging your head, it fits you .... I know what I saw, and I am not overly impressed. We shall see at the season End, who is correct and who is wrong. I would love to be wrong though.

If the starting defense surrenders an average of 3 points a half for the rest of the season, the number of sacks and turnovers they accrue will be completely inconsequential.;)

Rampage, the defense has ranked:

2005 # 10
2006 # 13
2007 # 9
2008 # 8

They have been in the top third of the NFL. The defense has been consistent. It's the special teams and turnovers that have hurt this team the most. In 2006, the defense fell apart for specific reasons in December.

Dude your complaining about Scandrick and Jenkins while they were running with the 2nd and 3rd team front 7. What sense does that make? I mean really!!!

Their starting QB looked to throw the ball down the field several times to the outside, and Dallas' CBs had it shut down. He looked at Newman several times and Jenkins. Scandrick played well, too. It was just like last week. Collins would look at Newman and Jenkins, and he had to check down.

He ended up trying to pick on the LBs.

Yardage is a useless stat. The defense was ranked 20th in points allowed last season.

the defense didnt give up all those pts, and alot of the one's they did were partly because of short fields after turnovers or bad coverage on ST's

Would you rather be a Giants fan tonight? Their supposedly infallible defense was just shredded by Mark Sanchez.

Exactly. No NFC East team has looked stellar this preseason.
I still think it's the best division in football nonetheless.

I think our starters have been pretty damn good, definitely better than the other three teams.

Perhaps a few "meaningful" games where we sack the QB on second down, then give up 23 yards on the next play you will realize that our defense, as a whole, is not championship caliber to this point. It happens alllllllllllll the time with this team- going back to Parcells. Even the Campo units were better than that with ZERO pass rush. What gives?

Of the four NFC East teams, the Cowboys have looked the most promising during the preseason; in all three games thus far, the Cowboys have led when the starters were taken out.

The Packers have been obliterating their preseason opponents, but I have a nagging suspicion they may be game planning.

Seriously dude, I mean you have some kind of issues that have you have with that frustration? I am not impressed with Secondary, and we shall see if I am wrong. Right now, you can't prove me wrong and I can't prove you wrong either. So if you want to keep jumping up and down, then go ahead. Seems like you love doing that. If not, I am not convinced till I see it in the regular season.

And I would love to be wrong. I just don't see a great secondary, from the reports I read about camp etc. Probably just wrong, but we shall see. I see an average to above average secondary and which might not be a bad thing at all. I wont be convinced other wise till end of season and we see good stuff from Secondary. Till then, if you want to keep bangning your head or putting gazillion exclamation points, then be my guest. And you can tell me I told you so, at the end of season, I am proven wrong. I never have a problem admitting when I am proven wrong.
