The third quote? You mean this one?

And let's not forget it was preceded by this one:

Thanks for making my point for me.

And while we're on the topic of intelligence, I should mention that the correct usage is their, not there. Their is possessive.

One incorrect usage can be dismissed as a mistake. Repeated misuse through two posts constitutes a rather disturbing trend.

This may help:

You're the one who broached the topic of intelligence.

Don't get snippy because it was your eventual undoing.

It looks to me like Ware's just been going through the motions to prepare for the regular season.

I hope Byron Leftwich wears his running cleats on the 13th.

Just a pet peeve but it annoys the heck out of me when folks start equating intelligence with grammer or spelling in a forum. It's quite simpleminded to jump on someone snapping off a quick post maybe on a phone. This is not the Jefferson-Adams letters. Einstein was notoriously sloppy in both German and English. So were most of the Nobel winners that I have read about. Yes, grammer and spelling are out front in a forum like this. But, sorry Grammer obsession is a sign of OCD and a small rule driven mind not intelligence. Please for the sake of my limited sanity attack ideas not a stupid word choice.

You've completely missed the boat here. Grammar and other language rules become very important when a poster's inability to express himself properly leads him to make erroneous assessments on the intelligence of others.

If you're going to question someone's intellect based on such spurious grounds, you must expect that your linguistic shortcomings will take front stage, especially when those shortcomings are repeated.

Adhering to grammar rules is not indicative of a "small mind." Quite the contrary, actually. It demonstrates a thorough understanding of language -- an in depth knowledge of how and why language operates. When you demonstrate such an understanding (or you devise physical theories comparable to Special and General Relativity), you're free to break the rules.

Until then, you do so at your own peril when you begin insulting the intelligence of others.

These may not be the Jefferson-Adams letters, but you're probably not Albert Einstein.

Never said I was Einstein and I don't think you can claim to be Chomsky. Again, it is only a pet peeve. To understand and comprehend language is certainly a characteristic of basic intelligence. However, the use of there vs. their hardly shows lack of understanding. It could be someone typing quickly, typing on a phone, a misbehaving type ahead, an English as a second language type. Attack him for his ideas. Suck up his sniping. The retort was petty.

That said. Can we get back to obsessing over a topic as meaningless but much more fun topic than grammar and language? Maybe the cosmic significance of the Cowboy's Defense?

I never claimed to be Chomsky (nor would I want to be). In fact, I'm not the one who brought up geniuses and great historical figures in order to justify the gaps in my knowledge -- that's more indicative of feelings of inadequacy than correcting someone's poor grammar.

Confusing there and their indicates a lack of understanding when it occurs on a regular basis. Furthermore, language misuse is a key issue here because it prevented the poster in question from clearly expressing himself. Then, rather than admitting his mistake, he became defensive and started questioning my intelligence. It seems his tact is far more petty than anything I've done.

It's quite telling that you managed to overlook his pettiness.

Incidentally, my pet peeve is disingenuousness.

If we're still talking about our defense...

Didn't our starters only give up three points? Or was that some other game I was watching?

CL you must have missed it, Jenkins and Scandrick were awful and gave up tons of big plays, dont you remember? At least thats hat some brilliant people in CZ said.

The penalties and lack of turnovers are a legitimate concern because they're a worrisome continuation of a trend.

Otherwise the D has looked pretty good.

The starters on defense have been stingy at giving up points this preseason despite the fact they've been handcuffed by vanilla scheming.

They've done very little blitzing, yet when they have, the pressure has gotten there. Does anyone honestly believe that we aren't going to get to the QB this year? Remember pressure is Wade's specialty ... it's gonna happen ... regularly. That's what dictates everything for this defense ... pressure. Yet without applying a bunch the starters have still been very effective keeping teams out of the endzone.

Now some of that can be chalked up to the other teams being vanilla as well and just as importantly we haven't faced any top flight QBs yet like we'll see in the regular season. Still when this team starts sending 5 and 6 regularly it's going to be a nightmare for opposing signal callers.

Also, don't forget, our defense's best friend is gonna be that time consuming offense we have. They should get plenty of rest on the sideline this year.

I predict 4 pro bowlers off this side of the ball (Ware,Ratliff,James, and Newman) including the best defensive player in the game. I'm impressed with all the FA additions but I especially like Brooking. I think he's the perfect fit for Wade's scheme and is going to make some major noise this year. I think people sometimes forget how good a career this guy has had because he was buried down there in Atlanta.

I love the young corners, they will make some mistakes, but at least no one is gonna get to treat the guy playing opposite Newman this year as if he were Slowpoke Rodriguez minus the gun.

All in all I'm excited about this group.

I have ZERO doubt in my mind that the secondary will be much better this year because Henry's gone alone. Seriously was tired of watching him play the past few seasons. Those 50 groin injuries made him slower than molasses.
