Our Malcolm Brown is Chris Whaley

For those of you who advocated Malcolm Brown in Round 1, I think our redshirt DT, Chris Whaley (#96), looks just as much the prospect. He looks just as disruptive here and had 2nd-3rd round grade before the knee injury. While Brown (#90) certainly has more size and is a natural 1-tech, I think Whaley can take some snaps there.

I think Whaley could be in the mix as a pass rush specialist as a 3 Tech on passing downs with Crawford moving to the 1

Chris Whaley is going to be our RB?

I don't think anyone wanted Malcolm Brown in the first.

The idea is that Chris Waley can be developed into another Melton. That still leaves a lot to be seen, but the idea would be for him to play 3 tech not 1 tech.

I'm not sure if that video was supposed to be evidence for Whaley or against him. The portion I looked at showed a player who was getting washed out by the line.

I have hopes for Whaley based on what I've read on the zone and elsewhere, but this didn't increase those hopes.

Honestly Brown would have been more luxury than need and this is coming from someone that wanted Brown in the 1st. we are fine at DT. we have run stuffers, block eaters, & 3 pass rushers(Crawford, Mcclain, Whaley) no need to worry.

No, he was no Brown at Texas. I do think that he has tools that Marinelli can develop though, so I have hopes for him.

But Brown was a legit first round prospect and even without the knee Whaley wasn't that.

I think Brown was a first round prospect because he was scheme versatile because he was 310+ pounds, so he could play in 4-3 or 3-4. Whereas Whaley is strictly a 4-3 DT.

I hope you are right concerning Whaley. I just want to see it before my eyes before I become a believer.

Yeah, at least in part. With his size along with his mobility, he is a pretty highly sought out commodity. Whaley, as you mentioned, will only fit a few defenses at all, IMO.

Brown had power at Texas that Whaley did not. I still really have high hopes for Whaley though and I'd rather have had Byron Jones at 27 with Whaley trying to make it as an UDFA, instead of Brown at 27 making Whaley redundant and unwanted.
