I think in this draft he would have been the same type of prospect as Xavier Cooper, Grady Jarrett or Michael Bennett. Probably would have had a 2nd or 3rd Rd projection in this class if healthy. I'm expecting him to make the roster as the backup 3T and rotate with Crawford and Mcclain on passing downs with Mincey and Hardy seeing some snaps at the 3T occasionally.

In the perfect world Whaley shows some real upside and makes Crawford expendable at the end of the season. Right now Crawford is going to be a high priority in the offseason because he is the only real 3T and while I would like to keep him, it would be nice to have some leverage and a heir apparent if he leaves.

Crawford is the type of you guy you re-sign, assuming he has another solid season.

Gonna be hilarious when this dude doesn't even make the team. Ben Gardener too.

I'll be rooting for guys like Gardner, Bishop, Coleman and Whaley but they have a lot of work to do.

DLaw............TCrawford............Brent...........Hardy
Mincey..........McClain................Hayden.......Gregory

Tell me who advocated malcolm Brown so we can rough him up.
Universe of Texas players are soft, everbody know that. If they are not soft they are head cases. If they is not head cases then they are in jail.

I was one who advocated for Brown at 27. Don't think Whaley is anywhere near the player Brown is. I do hope that our coach's can get max potential out of him, and he has spent this last year not only rehabbing but also, with his head in the playbook. And working with strength and conditioning coach's to be at his best come training camp.
Speaking of which, it will be an extremely interesting camp this year with so many players coming back from injuries - or hoping to come back (Claiborne). we have a whole slew of players coming back, and having their first off-season to get healthy and bigger. Lee, Whaley, both McClain's (LB and DT) Stanford DE - can't think of his name. Lawrence - bigger/stronger.
There is plenty to be excited about ...

Its a 2 way street to extend/re-sign him. I would love to get him taken care of early, but if he doesn't want to sign or is asking for too much either now or after the season it ties the teams hands. Thats why you want a player like Whaley to show something so you at least have a viable replacement in case Crawford isn't here next year.

I'm not sure if that video was supposed to be evidence for Whaley or against him. The portion I looked at showed a player who was getting washed out by the line.

I have hopes for Whaley based on what I've read on the zone and elsewhere, but this didn't increase those hopes.

He definitely wore down in games.

I'd probably be more concerned about the position if I knew Dallas was absolutely counting on Whaley to work out. It's easy to hope the guys work out when you know you're not dependent upon them.

Crawford's play last year puts me at ease in that regard, and we know Mincey can move inside some on passes downs and that McClain flashed some at the 3-tech. I'd be concerned if something happened to Crawford because at this point we don't know if anyone else we have could step in as a main 3-tech, but I think that concern exists at a lot of positions.

Hopefully, we can find someone who can supplement Crawford's efforts among Whaley, McClain, Coleman, Bishop and even several of the players listed at end, like Mincey, Jack Crawford (who flashed at 3-tech), Gardner, Russell and Edwards. We might even see Hardy there on some plays.

I expect McClain's main position to be 1-tech, though, because we don't have as many options there. The others contending at that spot are Brent and Hayden and probably Bishop. Coleman seems to be the only other one who has the size for it (6-2, 300), but it didn't look to me like he had the strength/temperament for the position.
