Our o-line and our defense can win games

If our defense keeps up this level of play, we will win some games with Romo and Dez out. They're playing that well. Especially once we get Hardy, RoMac and Gregory back. This defense can be elite.

We have the Falcons and Saints the next two weeks. Both of those are winnable games. Then we get to full strength (minus OScan) on defense. I'll take a potentially elite defense and an elite offensive line to battle regardless of my offensive skilled position players. Look at the Bucs, Giants' and Ravens' championships since 2000.

An elite offensive line plus an elite defense is enough to at least play .500 ball until we get our superstars back. I truly believe that.

If they re good enough to win without them, shouldn't they be good enough to win with them?

If it turns out Tony is actually out 8 weeks, with the bye thrown in and a week until the next game, he might only miss 6 games if he returns 8 weeks from today. He would be back for the Bucs game. If Weeden and the D can get us past the Falcons and Saints, even if we lose the next four (Patriots, Giants, Seahawks, Eagles), we would be at .500 when Tony comes back. With Tony and our defensive reinforcements week 5, we could beat the Bucs, Dolphins, and Panthers, which would get us to 7-4, then start a stretch run to the playoffs.

Maybe I'm just dreaming, but it's nice to think this can have a happy ending.

We're going to need effective QB play. If that's because we're mostly running it or using screens and playing good defense behind that, that's ok. But there's really no way we get out of this without Weeden playing better than most of us expect him to. Some team in the NFCE is going to step up during this stretch. Someone always does.

I do think we'll still have a shot at the division when Tony and Dez get back, though. Maybe we sneak in and be that team nobody wants to play.

If Tony can comeback around game 10, we're going to the Superbowl!

We're going to win games with Weeden! I know he was awful vs the Cardinals last season but the Cards are a good team and I still think we would've struggled against them with Romo. They presented the same problems for us that Detroit did in the playoffs.

Am I the only one who thinks Weeden has actually looked better than Romo in both games he's replaced him in?

And to add I am in no way saying/implying that Weeden is better than Tony. Just saying Tony didn't have his best 'stuff' in either game.

We are going to need to improve our running game so that we have manageable 3rd downs. Teams are going to blitz Weeden and try to force him into mistakes. With the improved defense, we can win games as long as he can play mistake free football.

He doesn't need to be a the QB that wins us games but he can't be the QB that loses us games by giving the ball away. He just needs to be a Alex Smith type of QB.

Another point on the Cards, they will be a bigger threat to keep us from reaching the SB than Green Bay.

So our o line isn't elite now?

I mean Romo was sacked three times and hit like six times and he was out the game in the 3rd quarter. This very young oline has all has the potential in the world the will play together more and get better with each other. However, I believe at this point they have been overrated by the media and we have all bought in to it.

They are very good. With the potential to be great. I do believe they are a little overrated right now.

No they aren't. They struggle against Philly's front, but so do a lot of teams.

This is still one of the better lines in the game.

I agree it is one of the better lines in the game. They are also the youngest and will get better. The way the media has just been slobbing on their knob the last two years needs to chill a bit though.

I agree. I am also very high on our OL, and they're a very good unit, but probably not best in the NFL, and certainly not the impenetrable wall that they've been portrayed as being by the media. And the defense? I just dont know... It's hard to believe that they're playing this well, and I'm not sure yet if it's sustainable... I think we have a good chance of winning some games without Dez and Romo, but I also think the Giants will come on strong. I'm still very optimistic, but it is a lot to overcome. Falcons will be a good test.
