I understand the difference between pass block and run block. But if our O-line is so bad how in the world is JJ doing so well? Yes our O-line has problems with the blitz. However, what in the H** are we thinking when we line up 5 receivers and no backs? BP obviusly felt this O-line was good enough to protect his boy Drew. If not we could have easily signed/drafted someone.
Bledsoe is a joke. Imagine if he were playing for the Eagles on Sunday. I wouldn't hesitate to call it a win for us.
Empty back sets are to scare the defense into blitzing. If you can get the ball out quickly and accurately to a receiver, then you're putting the defense at risk. On the first sack/fumble on Bledsoe, Philly blitzed six. If the ball is able to get delivered quickly and accurately, Philly is now at a huge disadvantage. Problem was we couldn't do that. I don't have a problem with the theory of using the formation, but they should've stopped going to it once it was abundantly clear that formation wasn't working.
The O-Line didn't play well, but I believe that there's some simple solutions to countering the Philly type of blitzes (and surprised they didn't try them some more). But the big problem is that when Bledsoe had time, he was still god awful. And call me crazy, but if he can punish the Eagles when he has nobody in his face because the O-Line picked up the rush, I think Philly is going to think twice about blitzing again.
