Pettiti didnt deserve it, Alex Barron or the guy other guy from NE deserves it more, and they played twice as good as him.

Ware and Petitti both made the team.

Spears got honorable mention.

Just clarifying. :)

A very good point they make about Ware. Must be double teamed. How many guys coming out of a small school can they say that about in Year 1? The very talented Osi Omenyiora -- also from Troy -- managed a single sack in his first year. And he had Strahan on the other side -- not Al Singleton and Scott Fujita.

We have a serious stud on our hands.

So you don't know the guy's name, but you know he played "twice as good"? Not to mention that you're a better scout than the guys at ourlads?

I agree, add to that he has had to learn a new position going from DE to OLB. As the position becomes 2nd nature to him I think he will get much better and make a bigger impact on this team

Both guys may have been better but started only 11 games.

It is hard to pronounce. Mankins is already on the team and Kazzkur played LT much better after Matt Lyght's injury and after Tom Ashworth's injury. Although Kazzkur didnt start as many games, he stood up to DE's much better than Pettiti did.

Rob Petitti - 8 penalties, 13.5 sacks allowed
Dan Buenning - 5 penalties, 2 sacks allowed
Logan Mankins - 3 penalties, 3.5 sacks allowed
Michael Roos - 10 penalties, 6.5 sacks allowed
Jammal Brown - 8 penalties, 3.5 sacks allowed

Anyone see the discrepancy? Aside from Roos who managed to rack up 9 false starts, Petitti is the clearcut loser of this group.

So they based it on how many games you started and not if you allowed 16 sacks in 16 games?

I love Ware, but if Big Bill wanted a LB for 3-4 why not draft a linebacker? Maybe someone playing for San Diego? Why draft a DE from a small school?

Playmakers are the difference between good and great teams. Where will Ware be? Marion looks like one of the greatest young LB's ever. And JJ passed on him. Wow. Just wow.

Well for one, I see you comparing Apples and Oranges. Guards don't give up very many sacks. They also are sheilded from the ref so they won't pick up as many penalties. Buenning is guard, so is Mankins.

Brown played well and so did Roos. They of course were picked #13 and #41 overall. Petitti was picked #209 overall. Seems like a bargain to me.

"Must be double teamed"????

Ware got taken out on many plays by one OL because he had no inside pass rush move.

What you fail to consider is how the teams evaluated each player's potential -- not how he was going to do in year 1 but where he was going to be in 2 or 3 years. Merriman was more ready to plug in -- but we judged Ware to be the better player in the long term.

People who judge drafts after a single year are usually wrong. I recall lots of publications giving us a strong A following the 2002 draft. At the time it looked like Gurode was better than Bentley, Bryant better than Deion Branch, Derek Ross better than anyone else, and Jamar Martin better than Najeh Davenport. Hmm. Smart pickin'.

Its pretty common to convert 'tweener' DE's into LBs in the 3-4. I think at one point all of the Patriots starting LBers were converted DE's.

Ware has the physical talents to be just as good if not better than Merriman, without the attittude or the Postons. He'll just take a year or two longer to get there.

I'm pretty sure if you watch every pass rusher in the league, you could say the same about getting taken out of lots of plays. That's why teams are able to pass so often, because sacks are rare.

Canty played much better than Spears, IMO.

Agreed, I think he should have made the team.

Pettitti should have gotten honorable mention at best for starting all 16 games, but even that is stretching it.

None of the 40,000 kickers we had on the roster made it. Well, ok so maybe Cundiff and Cortez weren't rookies, Suisham was, I had never heard of him before we signed him. he shoulda made it damn it, he made at least 1 kick.
