Realistically, 2017 is Romo's last year. Though he's technically signed to 2020, the final two years are basically placeholder years as releasing him would result in basically no dead money plus the cap savings will be enormous.

The real question is this: does Romo last another three full years in the league? Will the continued back injuries be his eventual demise?

If Vaughan's just a footnote in Cowboys history and our future has yet to be drafted, it stands to reason that researching some mid-round QB's might be a wise research project.

Under, unless he takes the next 4-5 games off. Somebody needs to save him from himself...

I'm actually more encouraged than ever that he'll be here for a long time. The Romo hating back experts told me that he would crumple to a heap on his first sack in the preseason... it never happened. Taken plenty of big hits this year. It took a fluke hit that could have taken any QB out to sideline him... and we still don't even know if he's going to miss time for it.

This latest injury isn't related to the last one, and therefore, probably could've happened to anyone. That said, I do with he'd sit if there is any risk or worsening it. We're in a damn fine position and there is plenty of season left.

No. I think he'll play two more years at most. If he does make it all the way through, it won't be pretty. It's not like he was a 100% even before this new back injury. He'll likely be in pain the rest of his career.

That's why I was annoyed with the new contract. I don't think we can rely on Romo being at his best. We need that.

Because consistently top 5- 10 QB's are so scarce in the NFL Romo will still be in the league.

With this team by 2018? I don't know, but somewhere. He doesn't have a retirement level of injury and he certainly is too tough to just hang em up at this point.

No way, but I will settle for two good, healthy more years from him.

Ask us again when he puts the recent injuries behind him. I'd imagine this poll would get very different results.

Back injuries don't get better(specifically in the NFL), it is a steady decline and it will never get back to normal. Unfortunately, this is the beginning to the end for Tony :(

i think he'll restructure and retire in 2018. Everyone is overhyping this minor injury. Tiny fracture will play next week at the latest.

I really hope they hold him out until after the bye week. There's no need for him to be a stationary target and to chance further injury. The coaching staff should save him for a late season/playoff push.

As for the over/under... With the injuries piling up, I have to say under

I take Romo at his word and he said he thinks he can play another 5 years...............that would be 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.................he will then be 38 yrs old and will announce his retirement...............2019 we will have a new starter under center.

Under. 2016 if he doesn't take anymore vicious hits this season. The hit that caused a break wasn't that bad. He is at the tail end of his effective career.

In 2018 he'll be 38 years old. Not many guys can and have played at a high level at that age.

I hope he stays healthy, but I'd still like to take a serious QB prospect in this year's or next year's draft,

Under. I said earlier I thought maybe he had two or three years left. I see nothing to change my mind. I've had back problems for 20 years. Once you have it, it never goes away. I was hoping the OL would help protect him but if he keeps taking hits like Monday, it could be sooner rather than later.
