Overshown and a 2nd contract?

We have seen a reasonable sample size of Overshown s play. When he’s been healthy he has been pretty solid. But he’s also been hurt a lot. He also did not seem to be quite the player we had hoped he would be when he returned from his last injury to end this season.

Couple of questions about him:

1. Would you re-sign Overshown?
2. What type of player is he currently?
3. Can the Cowboys afford to pay him at his market rate, knowing he is very brittle?
4. Would you ride out his contract and see how he plays or would you try to extend him, when eligible at a reduced rate due to his past injuries.
5. Has he been injured enough that instead of re-signing him, you would take a 3rd round pick (his original draft round) for him and move on to another player?
If he can play out next year injury free and return to form, yeah, I'd bring him back at market rate.

If he can't stay healthy again? No way. He's only played 19 games here in Dallas.

We have exactly zero starting caliber LB besides Overshown (Marist is a ? still). When healthy, Overshown was a beast…..I think he’s more reliable mentally and maturity wise than Diggs and would always give his all. Way more upside than Jaylon Smith for example.

He’s the type of player I would approach about an extension now and try to get him at a significant discount. Overshown may not want that and would prefer to play out 2026 to establish his value, but with as many issues as he’s had Overshown may welcome the security of signing early.
Exactly, pimp.

HAVE to see him play a sustained length of time uninjured. Talent + lack of availability isn’t an effective combination for team success

I haven't seen anything "beast" from Overshown. He's been decent to good when available. But it doesn't matter if he's Lawrence Taylor if we can never count on him to stay healthy.

I would be very careful with Overshown given his inability to stay healthy. I would make him play out his contract and offer him a team-friendly deal with the necessary protections in-place in the event he is injured. How many times have we seen Dallas sign players with an injury history to big contracts and never recoup their investment?
The team has too many needs and cannot afford to waste money on bad contracts.

This!!! Jaylon’s best year was better than Overshown’s best season that was only 8 games. I like Overshown as a player and a Cowboys player but he might be the most overrated player on our roster.
He’s very athletic. Built like a tank.

Definitely a contract you wait on. Overshown is probably one of the most intriguing players on the defense and if healthy can be a regular pro bowler. He has to be available though to earn the contract.

Yeah the potential is there where he could have a fully healthy season and become a $15m per year type of LB, but realistically could you extend him now for something like 4 years/$24m? $6m per year is low end starter money at the position that won’t hurt too bad if he does end up flopping.
To be honest with his injury history and the way he played for the few games this past season, I wouldn’t off a long term contract. Overshown is a year to year guy until proven otherwise.

..no way, wait to see how 26' plays out. He might be another accident waiting to happen.

I would too. Heavy on incentives not guarantees. Gives him another year or two to prove he can stay healthy. Gets him paid if he does but covers you if he doesn’t

He is going to get the Sean Lee special contract, all based on playing incentives.
