Overshown in the 3-4

Here's a scenario: Get a quality edge rusher and safety in FA before the draft; then trade the 12 and 20 to move up for a top player like Styles. Three players instead of four, but all high quality, no risk players for being competitive NOW. Thoughts?
I think we should fill safety and edge in FA, then use 12 and 20. Then take best player which is at 12 which is likly to be styles, Delane or mccoy. If the quality isn’t there at 20 maybe trade back, hopefully add a 3rd

There’s probably 5-6 good safeties in this draft. The problem is we don’t have a second. An early second would be really nice in this draft. But don’t see how we could add one and still get 2 starters with our 2 first
A simple trade down.

Great player and person....just can't stay healthy. Same when he played for the horns. Hoping he is on the field all season.

This board thinks DO is the second coming of demarcus ware when he's closer to Bobby carpenter in talent.

We can trade down. There is amazing talent to be had in the 2nd and 3rd round. This is a very deep draft especially for corners, safeties and linebackers.

It’s only simple if there’s someone there a team wants and they aren’t too far down. It happens a lot but would happen more if it was simple
When it comes to safeties and corners this is one of the deepest drafts in over a decade.

I imagine that Overshown is projected as one of the staring MLBs in the 3-4. Let’s say we sign Dean and then Styles drops to us at 12. Can Overshown play OLB? Who comes out in the nickel?
We still have the kids from Notre Dame. LUFU he’s a fantastic linebacker, but we don’t use him to his abilities. He’s going to play outside. I can’t wait to watch him.

I don't believe either of them are 3 down Mike LB's.

Absolute Slander. In half of 2024 DO showed more than Carpenter did his entire career….much more.

There’s better talent in the first. That’s why they go in the first. Teams miss in every round but odds of a player being a starter goes down with every rnd

Yes, of course there is. That's why they go first. However, it seems the Cowboys are the only team that has repeatedly missed on second-, third-, and fourth-round defensive picks.

Take a look at the Seahawks. Most of their defensive players are not first-rounders. Instead, their defense is largely made up of second- to fourth-round selections.

As for this year’s defensive draft, especially at the cornerback and safety positions, there will be very good value in the second and third rounds. This is one of the deepest drafts at corner and safety positions.

With all the holes we have on defense, we could use more than just our two first-round picks on that side of the ball.

I think we’ve failed at developing players. Wright has developed into a solid player. And we’ve reached for position way too much, especially at DT. Taco and mazi weren’t just not top talent but literally not nfl quality players. Those are huge misses. If you pick a guy who doesn’t live up to first rnd pick that’s bad. But if he’s not even worth a roster spot that’s really bad. We’ve had success trading down either way lamb and Micah. Though they probably weren’t the targets so trading down may have protected us from ourselves. Of the guys likely to be there at 12 there’s 4-5 I’d take. If they are all gone then that means someone else fell. It’s really hard to see a scenario there’s not a player at 12 worth the pick. 20 is different, there’s probably not 20 first rnd prospects since there never is. I don’t mind trading down but just can’t gamble like we did either Micah. We got lucky because that trade down realky lowered the talent availible. At 20 that’s not as big a risk. There’s gonna be 15-20 guys who just based on talent are really second rnd graded players. By 12 there’s still a few first rnd graded players likely to be there. A trade doen at 20 might add a 3td. Worth it if you can still get a guy who can help day one and add a 3rd. But it really comes down to who’s there when you get on the clock

If the player we’re targeting isn’t there, I’d be fine with trading down and picking up extra picks. That’s especially true if we’re looking for a pass rusher. The only ones I’d feel good about taking there are Rueben Bain or Bailey. If neither of them is available, then I’d go with Thieneman.

A lot of people are high on Caleb Downs, and I understand why, but I really wish he had run the 40 at the combine so we could see his actual speed.

Safety is easily the biggest weakness on our defense right now, and that becomes even more obvious with how much nickel we’re going to play. To make this system work, we need at least two safeties, one outside corner, and a true nickel corner. I just don’t trust that we can pull it off with just Bland and Revel.

Downs will probably run at his pro day. But there’s plenty of film to see how fast he plays. I think position aside, he’s the best player in the draft. But a safety sure isn’t going top of the draft. I don’t see him falling past bengals at 10. Safety is a big need and if no pick 12 worthy players are there I’m fine with trading down. But if styles or delane is there I’m picking one of them. There are a few good safeties but they won’t get past middle of the 2nd and I don’t think adding a 2nd with a trade down is likely, unless maybe Simpson is there and a team goes for him. He had a very nice workout at combine. We need to figure out what likely and unlikely. What’s unlikely should be signed in FA
