I never heard this mentioned anywhere yet, but....

TO needs only 103 more receiving yards to surpass Irvin in career receiving yards.

Currently:

Irvin: 11,904 yards
Owens: 11,802 yards

Also, I was going to post this before the game but I felt I would curse us...

The Cowboys have never lost to the NY Giants on opening day:

1965: Win 31-2
1966: Win 52-7
1986: Win 31-28
1995: Win: 35-0
2007: Win: 45-35

Nice streak we have going here and all of them were high scoring contests.

Also: The power of 3,000.....

Witten needs 40 yards to get to 3,000 career yards
Julius needs 39 yards to get to 3,000 career rushing yards
Romo needed 97 yards to get to 3,000 passing (which he is now over)

Okay, there's the "stat-facts" for those interested.

I really don't consider TO's catching those 100+ yards as legitimately passing Michael's record. Now if TO's still around and playing great for us (including helping to win a SB) then maybe he gets an asterisk but the record will always be Michael's.

He's talking all-time yardage - not individual team record-holders.

Yes, this is correct (all-time yardage)*thanks "superpunk". As long as TO will surpass Irvin, at least he'll be doing it in a Cowboys Uniform.

I think once TO surpasses Irvin, he should....Oooh, I dunno bow down to the star or something.

For some reason, I still need to get the ever lingering bitter taste out of my mouth for what he did to the star when he was with SF.

He would redeem himself to many fans for that prior debacle as well as an "honor to Irvin" if he were to publicly display his love for the star. IMO

TO is the man as a Cowboy, I root for him every week...I just want to get that "star-thing" out of my head for whatever reason.

Good stuff. Witten is at 2954 after Sunday's game, so he needs 46 to get to 3000. He has a shot of breaking Doug Cosbie's team record for receiving yards by a tight end, which is 3728 yards. That is a difference of 774 yards over the next 15 games or 51. 6 yards per game. Witten has averaged 45.0 yards per game for his career. Take out his rookie season where he was not yet a force, he has averaged 51.9 yards per game from 2004-2006.
