"I know most you hate his attitude, but I love it"

"HATE" what hate??? You seem to be painting a lot of people with a broad brush, I haven't read or seen that at all, other than the fact he's still very raw and needs to continue to work on his Mechanics in blocking, routes and assignments which are all true and he seemed to acknowledge that in the interview, but that's not HATE!!!

Most people hate cocky, over confident, athletes. Maybe some see Rico as that. (Shrugs)

There is a huge difference between cocky (Johnny Manziel) and confident Rico Gathers.

"It's the little things that are going to make you elite." Rico Gathers.

That is goal setting. Not bragging.

Jay Novacek, Jason Witten, now Rico is gonna pick up the torch. This guy is gonna be really good as long as he can improve his blocking enough so that it's not a liability.

The Dallas Cowboys produce tight ends like the USMNT produces goalkeepers.

Thats not fair.

Martellus (and his brother) are total clowns. Idiots.

I don't see Rico that way at all. He seems like a hard worker willing to take instruction from his coaches. And Witten.

No doubt Rico is different, but the Witten factor alone is not a significant factor.

If Rico succeeds give Rico credit. He won't succeed because of Witten.

He's shown natural skill catching the ball. He's got a long way to go go inline blocking. Also, on TalkinCowboys a few episodes ago after Preseason Week 1, Ambar Garcia was saying her sources inside the team said he missed several assignments against the Cardinals.

I agree that if Rico succeeds it won't be because of Witten. But having a good role model when you are in the middle of a steep learning curve can do nothing but help.

Just like Sean Lee mentoring Jaylon Smith. It can only help.

Don't forget Billy Joe Dupree and Doug Cosby (and to a lesser degree Norman and Ditka)…we've been pretty blessed at TE.

In fairness it was players who seemed to have issues with him by labeling him "heir apparent". Fans couldn't get enough of him thus the article a week from sports outlets during off-season. He seems humble to me.

Bennett (and his brother) lack the I.Q. to be taught by someone like Witten. Both are borderline Neanderthals. Having said that, I'd take them both!
If MartyB had Jimmy or Parcells as his HC during his rookie year, it would be a different story.

Physically, Bennett is very similar to Gronk. They ran identical forties with Bennett having a faster ten yard time. Bennett is currently listed at 275 vs 265 for Gronk. Bennett was an overpowering blocker when he was here (assuming he could remember who to block).

Both are 6'6-1/4.

Rico is 6'6-1/4 and listed at 290.

Yes, it's good to have an example both in terms of work ethic and skills.

Yeah I'm only 25 years old so I gotta try to find highlights of the real old school guys.

He is physically dominant as a blocker when he gets his hands on defenders.

I didn't see a lot of all out missed assignments. What I saw was partial misses. For example he blocked a DL's outside shoulder when he should have blocked his inside shoulder.

The Cowboys blocking scheme puts a lot of emphasis on correct technique/angles over pure physical dominance.

Rico and La'el like to go for the physically dominant block but that leads to some misses or throws off the timing of the play. It takes longer to drive a defender out of the hole than to just get between the defender and the RB for a wall-off type block.

You won't find a ton…before the rules changes in the 80s, TEs weren't typically used like they are now, but that said for their times, those guys were very, very effective.

Before Kellen Winslow appeared, the TE was a very different position.

He revolutionized the TE position. He was the first true weapon as a receiver at TE.

Bennett is one of the premier TE's in the game, would never deny that, doesn't mean that he isn't a moron. Comparing Rico in any way to Bennett is unfair to Bennett (at least at this point), Rico will probably never be the run blocker that Bennett is and we'll be lucky if he's half the pass catcher.

I would bet on Rico.

I watched Bennett up close at training camp going into his 2nd and 3rd years. I thought he was going to be great. It turns out that being a mental midget never let him reach his full potential.
