We so often label games as must win. After a surprising 4-1 start in 1st place heading into our bye this definitely is NOT a must win.

Here's a game we've had penciled in as a loss since the schedule came out regardless of who our QB is.

Now because of the success we've had all of a sudden this is a game some are seeing as a game they are expecting us to win. Is it a game we can win? Of course!

We should be loose and let it fly. Open up that playbook if we get into a shootout . 4-2 or 5-1 sets us up nicely to make a run for the playoffs .

Disagree, this is a must win. A statement must be made that we are the New Dallas Cowboys and not the same old rejects we have been since 1995. Enough is enough we need to get to the next level. Mediocrity just won't cut it anymore.

Good teams win the games they should . This is not a game we should win. Can we win? Certainly . Would a win elevate us. Of course .

The Eagles will be more of a must win game at home to stay in contention for division.

There are games like this one, at Minnesota and Pittsburgh that we won't be expected to win at least on the road as underdogs.

Upset wins on the road would be huge of course but not necessary in the overall scheme of things.

Yeah, if we're going to get to the Super Bowl this year we need to beat teams in the NFC that have blocked us before. It's kind of a gateway game, where a win is necessary to be taken seriously as a candidate for the next level, IMO. We need to break into the upper tier of teams, and beating the Packers would accomplish that.

I really dislike when some one says "This game is not a must win" EVERY game is, they all count towards the goal of the entire season.

This isn't baseball, basketball or hockey, it's a 16 games season, EVERY game is a must win!!!!

Team doesn't make the playoffs by one game, what will be your excuse then if these games aren't a must win???

It's not a game I ever penciled in as a loss.
That game doesn't exist for me.
No need to lower expectation to avoid feeling let down. I will feel let down with a loss no matter what

I'm not saying we don't want to win or what this win could do for us but most likely in the bigger schemes of the season not what I'd consider a " must win".

Believe me there will be many along the way and one of those could be against Philly after the bye.

"It's not a must win", that is subjective, but we must win it. Yes.
A must win is an elimination type game. At this point of the season, though, and to show we are a team to beat. We must win this game.

games that matter in order.
Your division
Your conference
Interconference

This could be a game that has seeding implications. It maybe not be a must win. But it is a important to get a win against a team that would be higher than us come January.

As some have mentioned, there are only 16 games in this season. Equated to baseball, this represents 10 games. In those ten games not every game is must win. The idea is to win 60% of those 10 games to be in contention. But even then you can have a ten game stretch and lose seven and still be in the hunt.

Football is more tenuous with only 16 games. You stack up wins as much as possible for a play-off berth, and berth positioning, and a bye.

This game is just as important and all fifteen others. And looking at the schedule, what once was thought of as easy by some on this board, is starting to show its teeth.

This is must win because it is one in sixteen.
This is must win because it is an NFC opponent.
This is a must win because it sends a message to the rest of the league, come big or expect to be bullied.

But most of all this is a game that shows us, the fans, where this team is, what needs to be done to get to the next level, and confirming things we all believe.

Plus, I am not in the mood today to kick my cat after a loss. My cat is in even a less good mood about that aspect.

Agreed. But given how vulnerable they are we should hopefully handle our business now. Otherwise we might be making another trip up their come playoff time with their squad in a completely revitalized state. Given the circumstances, this is a game we SHOULD win and thus becomes more of a mustn't win for me than otherwise.

You could argue either way if this GB game is a must win for the team. But it is a must win for Dak and the QB outlook for the second half of the season. Should Dallas beat GB, he will go into the bye as not only your starter but as the team leader he has become. And should he also beat Philly, there is no chance in Hades that even Jerry can give Dak the hook once he believes Romo is healthy. Romo will have to wait until he is needed. You don't just sit your season team leader and the chemistry that has developed with him and the team. This has become Dak and Zeke's team with complimentary WRs featuring the Beez.

No, I don't. But every game is a must win regardless. They count as tie breakers and so many other ways you can never call a game not a must win.

Do people in this thread know what the word "must" means?
