Jones drops appeal of one-year NFL suspension

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2901842

NEW YORK -- Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones withdrew the appeal of his suspension Tuesday and will serve the one-year term imposed by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

"I understand my responsibilities to my teammates, the Titans and my fans and I am committed to turning my life around and being a positive member of the NFL," Jones said in a statement issued by his agent.

Jones met with Goodell at NFL headquarters Tuesday and was accompanied to New York by agent Michael Huyghue.

"Last week, I asked for an opportunity to meet privately with commissioner Goodell," Jones said in the statement. "I met with him earlier today to tell him about the steps I have taken to change my life since being suspended by the NFL. I accept the discipline that's been imposed on me and I am withdrawing my appeal."

Goodell suspended Jones on April 10 for a series of off-field episodes. He has been interviewed by police 10 times and been arrested five times since he was drafted in 2005. Jones and his attorneys appealed the suspension May 11. It could be reduced to 10 games if Jones meets all the restrictions set by Goodell.

Huyghue said Jones intended to keep working out and would go back to school, taking courses online from West Virginia University, where he played.

Wow, he's finally doing something smart. Maybe he's going to take his punishment and actually try to better himself. I hope he does.

Yes but the bigger question is did Goodell have the right to suspend him in the first place?

I would feel much better about this situation if a man hadn't got shot and seriously injured because his stupidity....

Oh lord, don't start that argument, lolZ. It would be a sure way to get your/this thread up to about 12 pages though.

I hope that Jones survives this very long suspension. Will the Titans still pay him? Perhaps he should consider stripping in order to support himself. :(

Good on him.
glad he is taking responsibility.
But let us not get carried away by saluting this real-life thug.
A man is paralyzed and Pacman faces criminal charges.
All because one supposed professional wanted to live the thug life in Las Vegas. Throwing money at a strip joint. Something tells me he is new money and definitely not old money.
Go and sin no more, Packman!

I hope Pacman can learn from all of this and change his ways. I do think the guy has very good talent and hate to see guys waste their careers away but this is his own fault. As for Goodell I'm glad he is the man in charge, the image of this league has taken quite a few hits and it is good to see someone stand up and demand change.

Folks. this "good on him" stuff is give too much credit.

Goodell likely told him that his appeal would be denied and gave Pacman the opportunity to spin this positively for himself.

I agree. However Pacman has an opportunity to turn his life around and return in 08. There are many in this world that would not get the time of day from an employer with Pacs track record.

That's a good question. Should we discuss it?

I don't mind. I have nothing better to do. I'm sick here at work, so they would rather me sit and my computer and not talk to people, sneezing and snotting all over the place :D

That may be true, but at least he spun it postively. He could have easily went negative about it, and showed he's still as stupid as before. At least he's trying. Now how long it lasts, time can only tell

Whatever changed his mind is irrelevant. What is relevant is now he states that he will accept the punishment and act like a man and man it up. Now, can he do it? That is the question...

The first step to turning his life around is recognizing that HE has a BIG problem on his hands. Can this zebra change his stripes?
