Pacman Trade Talks Beginning

Tnew is only going to get what the market will offer and there is this thing called a franchise tag that I think we would slap on him before we just let him walk.

you see the price of the franchise tag dude? it's what, the average of the top 5 salaries out there for just 1 year. i would have to find out what that $ figure would be before i could say we'd do it. without looking, i'd say pretty high and w/o a contract to hide or postpone money, i don't think we'd do it.

You act like it would be something tottaly earth shattering if Al Davis and Jerry Jones already have a deal in place.

It's highly unlikely giving the spots that they are drafting. Now if Jerry was holding maybe the 10th pick in the draft you'd have some real stuff to talk about. But when the Raiders are picking 3 to think that they're going to actually love the idea of falling from 3 all the way to 22 is incredibly silly, IMO.

i guess for them it's fun to assume the world is stupid and they're so smart. didn't someone do some legwork the other day and said no one has ever traded up into the top 5 in the last decade or more? some people just let themselves get so enamored with the latest shiney object, it's all they see and common sense goes out the window.

it's like fools gold.

Is there smoke?

If there is smoke you have to at least entertain the thought.

Especially if we are going to give a no good, piece of crap like Pacman a chance to play for us.

I don't see how someone could view acquiring Pac-Man as a desperation move; I look at it as a situation in which the potential benefits far outweigh the cost to get him.

IMO, with a move for Pac-Man being made, a trade up for D-Mac seems more probable at this point if we do in fact sign him

Exactly. When you have to figure in the money that Hall, Samuel, and Nate are all making now, as the 3 highest, you can rest assured that a 1 year Franchise tag for Newman would be VERY steep. Probably to the tune of 9-10 million for that one year.

NOT pro-ratable or movable either.

dude we're giving Hamlin top 5 safety money for 1 year.

We gave it to Flozell too.

Dont be naive enough to think we wont slap it on Newman as well.

do the math. what did hamlin cost to do that? and how long ago did we do it to flo? also, how many times has jones said he doesn't like to do that?

again, do the math and realize it would be $9+ mil for THAT YEAR ALONE to make that move on newman.

not gonna happen. we either get a more cap friendly contract or newman could be in his last year as a cowboy.

getting Pacman would allow more flexibility in the draft which would be great as well. as long as Pacman makes it rain... on the field we will have a great secondary even with Roy back there haha

i'm not a fan of the move, but if we draw up the contract so we're not "hit" should he fall down again and get kicked out for life, i think it's worth a shot. we didn't exactly have the boy scouts of america on the team in the 90s and people survived.

however, all that said i'd still draft a CB as high as i could in this draft with a lot of good ones in it.

4.5 million for Hamlin is a FAR cry from 9-10 it would cost for Newman.

And Flo was years ago now. You'll notice that they chose to get him resigned this year, rather than have to put the franchise tag on him which instead of being 4.5, like Hamlins, would have been around 7.5-8 million.

Now do you think it's coincidental that they did that? No. Jerry didn't want to potentially give Flo 7.5-8 for one year, in the event they didnt get him resigned long term, but now you think he'll have no problem giving 9-10 for Newman for one year?

Not a chance bro. If they don't resign him then Newman would walk. The franchise tag at his position is just far too high at this point.

I just dont think Newman is going anywhere unless someone just extremely overpays which free agency has shown is quite possible.

I predict Newman will spend the next 5-7 years as a Cowboy. Thats my opinion.

I also think if we get Pacman we are moving up in this draft for someone.

Dallas is in a position to overspend if they so well please.

Especially if they think it brings a Lombardi back to Big D

Newman will probrably get a 4 year deal. Dont know what all the fuss is about with his contract. 4 yr/42 mil. yes sir

and that's fine. but there's no way he'll be franchised. also, would you pay $8+ mil for 4-5 years for newman? he'll need a very friendly contract to the team for us to be able to do it. i hope jones can make it work. i hope newman is around - but with the going rate of CBs these days, it's not unthinkable we'll let him go and start over back there.

If Pacman can get his act together, then I am all for him coming to Dallas. The holes he would fill would allow us to do so much more with this draft, IMO.

I dont either.

We can also give him a high tender as well right?

I just dont see the worry in losing him.

yea and pacman from all reports just really wants to get out of tenneesse and really wants to play for us. so im sure he's willing to play for cheap at least this year so he can prove that he can stay out of trouble and help his team out. if he acts up we just cut him, the perfect example of a low risk high reward. and yea i still would want a CB sometime in the first 2 rounds not just because of Pacman not being someone to trust but because of Newman being a FA next year and Henry possibly bein in his last year as well dependin on performance

Cowboys serious about Pacman?

Pacman Jones | Titans | Interested: Cowboys?
While the Dallas Cowboys aren't publicly making any statements, the team is seriously considering making a trade for troubled cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones, the Star-Telegram reported.
According to the newspaper, although Jones has yet to be reinstated, that won't prevent the Titans from trading him. Jones has been told a decision on his reinstatement should come prior to the start of training camps.
Sources say the Cowboys could offer a second day pick, possibly a fourth-round selection to acquire Jones. Jones has expressed his desire to play for the Cowboys, but the former first round pick hasn't seen game action in over a year.
