Adam, I have a question for you. I am hoping you at least provide some insight.

Obvioulsy there is a lot of talk about Romo's contract, if we sign him now it will probably be for less money than if he has a real good year, and then we sign him.

We are going to have some pretty large contracts to sign in the near future besides Romo.

Newman and Ware specifically, but others may have good years that we want to resign as well like Flozell, Julius, Barber, Canty, Hamlin. Then if the Cleveland pick ends up being top 5 that is going to be a hefty contract as well.

So my question is if we wait with Romo and he signs a Big Contract, what would you forsee for the future?

Could we pay Newman and Ware contracts that may be the highest at their positions? And if we do would you think that will force our hands and have to let some other guys walk that we would like to keep?

Obviously there are several factors like how much are the contracts worth, how are they structured that we do not know, but just looking for your overall global picture.

Is the Salary Cap high enough now, and in the future to Manage all of this, or after we sigh guys like Romo, Newman, Ware, and Cleveland's pick are we starting to have Salary Cap issues again?

Right now, we have the 10th-most cap room for this season and the 12th-most for next season. We shouldn't have any problem re-signing any of our key players, if we want to keep them. We might not be able -- or willing -- to re-sign ALL of our free agents, but we shouldn't be in any cap trouble even after re-signing guys such as Romo (a FA in 2008), Newman (a FA in 2009) and Ware (a FA in 2010).

We can all thank Stephen Jones for doing such a great job managing our cap:bow:

I see Romo getting resigned during the year if things start out hot, if not we can always franchise him for a year can't we..

Funny how you avoided the Flo issue. Does that mean you don;t think we will ask him to return?

are we still sticking with Newman being a FA in 2009? Almost every article I read says he is FA after this season.

I said we might not be able or willing to re-sign all of our free agents. With Adams, I imagine it's more a question of willingness. It depends on how well he plays this season. If he has one of his best seasons, it's likely we'll re-sign him. If he doesn't, we'll probably let him go and use one of the young guys or sign another free agent who's younger than Adams is.

Those articles were wrong. I think Snuffy Spagnola even wrote a correction in one of his columns after an earlier column said Newman would be a free agent in 2008. And the DMN has started reporting it correctly, too, after originally saying 2008.

When you say we may not be able to resign all our free agents can you expand on that? Obviously willing I am not concerned about.

Are you thinking after signing some of these deals with Romo, Newman, and Ware we will be pretty tight against the cap, then possibly running into some issues keeping key players?

We shouldn't have problems keeping key players. But you never know when some adequate starter or promising backup will get a lot of money thrown at them by another team. Suppose someone like Chris Canty or Marcus Spears or Jason Hatcher goes into free agency and gets an exhorbitant contract thrown at them by a team desperate for defensive line help (the Commanders, for example). We might not be able to re-sign them without throwing our budget out of whack. If we really want to keep them, though, we should be able to. It just depends on what your priorities are and what you're willing to give up (adding other players, etc.) to keep them. There's not an endless supply of cap room, so at some point, you have to set limits.

That sounds pretty good. Thanks for the input.

I look at the Colts and it seems they are suffering some. They have their main core locked up with a lot of money (Manning, Harrison, Freeney, and Wayne), but it seems to have limited them, and hampering what the will be able to do in the future.

It does not sound like you think we will be in the same situation.

Thanks!

Manning, Harrison, Freeny, etc have ate up a lot of cap room. Manning especially. They will not be able to come up with any big deals for anyone else. In this day and age of cap time, you really cannot afford to have more then 3 superstars on your team- or you have to go cut rate on too many other positions. And if one of them is a QB, OUCH!!!

Adam you make this place so great thanks!

This is just the stuff I want to read about, it keeps me thinking of the future!

Adam do you know what kind of money R. Bush is getting in NO, because that should around what we would have to pay a top five runner. How bout OT Thomas that went third to cleveland in case we pick a tackle.

seems like this pick is gonna be pricey and we had better hit on it.

Looking at that makes me think the Pats will be a completely different team next season.

Exactly, Corey Dillon counts $1.9M against the cap this year and $3.8m next year... doesnt sound like the Pats to me.
