Paging Jerry Jones - American Idol for Kickers

I can't think of a worse season for kickers than this one. Never mind the rotating basis of Folk/Suisham or the most accurate kicker in the NFL in Nate Kaeding blowing three FG's in the divisional game, kickers are as reliable as a 1983 Yugo GT on a cross-country trip or arguing why Irvin is better a WR than Rice.

Why not take this opportunity to further integrate the NFL into pop culture and have an American-Idol like audition where the top kicker will be rewarded with a one year NFL contract and guaranteed a starting position (all bets are off after Week 1 though).

Scoff if you will saying nobody wants to watch kickers kick, but if this was on network TV and each kicker had to kick eight balls each show from varying distances with the lowest percentage of kicks made being 'kicked' off the program, NFL junkies would eat it up. Ties would be settled like penalty kicks in that other game called football - the stress would be intense. No stupid fan voting, just straight up talent for splitting the uprights.

Any network execs in here want to run with this idea and help with my mortgage? My wife will bake muffins for you.

That's sorta how the Cowboys found Toni Fritsch.

They traveled all over the world to find a kicker, and discovered Fritsch in Austria.

Nobody thought to film it and make a TV show out of it back then.

Gil Brandt already did this.

There is a chapter in Walt Garrison's book "Once a Cowboy" where he tells about the Cowboys holding open auditions for Kickers. A city bus actually pulled up to the practice field with passengers on the bus. And then the bus driver, in his uniform, tried a couple of kicks and got back on the bus and went back to work.

Landry went to Europe to look at soccer players and found Toni Fritsch in Vienna.

Greatest story about Fritsch ever is him drinking all of Cliff Harris' beer.

Hos is going to love this post.

I think they should do away with kicking FG's.

6 pt TD & PAT
6 pt TD and 2pt conv

THAT IS ALL!

I was gonna say that Dallas already took that road for a WR, why not look for a kicker.
