Yep. That's the one game where I felt his conservative nature bit him in the butt. The Seahawks hired a corner who was previously working in a post office, IIRC, and we didn't attack him. :(

Pete Hunter. He was on our roster previous to the Hags.

I love everything about Bill except his wanderlust.

If he had left a year earlier, Sean Payton takes over. A year later and this team doesn't lose to the ***** Giants.

if there is one guy who would be a blast to spend an hour with discussing football, parcells would be one of those guys. love his draft stuff and although i don't always agree with his draft ideas they are very interesting

But Parcells is class. He understand this basic fundamental principle in relationships: "Always give a person a way out." And that's why Jerry Jones respects the fire out of him.

I did find Parcells' comment about JJ "thinking" he's a talent evaluator:laugh: , even though it should make me :(

The more damning line was Jerry doesn't have a football philosophy. That is the single biggest problem he has - no frame of reference for what he is attempting to build.

Outstanding post that will be lost by too many here.

A GM for life with no philosophy? Go Cowboys!

I will say that Parcells did play a little too cautiously at the end there. Going up vs the Seahawks he should have let Tony air it out some, throttled him back against a depleted secondary and we blew the game. Tony was pretty much the only thing that made us relevant at the time.

Probably. But Bill obviously didn't fully trust Romo in that big spot and chose to play conservatively, which he was known to do throughout his career. And we all know the Boys had that game won until they began making critical errors late in the game. So basically, Bill probably plays the game the exact same way if given a second chance at it.

If Parcells had been 10 years younger when he came to Dallas, we would have won at least one Super Bowl. By the time he got close to building a better roster, he was just physically spent I think. His last year here, he looked exhausted most of the season.

Cool stuff. Like the guy. He put together a good roster in his short time here. I did feel like the game was passing him by at the end though.

The Tuna is one of my favorite coaches of all time. I use to love him checking the mediots, they were scared to get out of line with the Tuna because the Tuna didn't play that. Thanks Dub G for the excellent post!

Edit: I really like how the Tuna straight blows up a lot of the sentiment of some fans about Jerry and especially the yellow press mediots.

Here are some of the Cowboys-related highlights from “Parcells: A Football Life.”

– Parcells on not wanting to play Romo too early in his career:

“If I had put in Romo in his first year and just let him play, he would have been out of football in a year and a half. He was just a gunslinger. He was indiscriminate. And he would do [expletive] that you just can’t succeed doing. But after a year or two of practicing in the preseason, getting his [reps], you could see he had a real good chance to come along.”

A clip of Romo in '03. Would that pick have changed history if it had stood up?

Correction - that game is from 2004.

the death of his brother during the season really got to him. And he was just spent.

Ref and anti bias defenders. Please defend this series of calls. There is no way that was an illegal hit. He grazed him with his shoulder.
