DONNA MCWILLIAM / AP
Bill Parcells, 66, is now entering the final stages of talks with the Dolphins, according to multiple sources.

Former NFL coach Bill Parcells has agreed to a four-year deal proposed by owner Wayne Huizenga to make him the team's head of football operations, a source has told The Miami Herald.

Huizenga was at the Dolphins' training facility for approximately one hour, from 4:45 p.m. to just before 6 p.m., where he met with Cam Cameron in the coach's office. The futures of both Cameron and general manager Randy Mueller are currently unknown.

The negotiations have been on-going between Parcells' agent, Jimmy Sexton, and Miami owner Wayne Huizenga throughout the day. The Dolphins are not commenting publicly about the deal.

Although published and Internet reports early Wednesday said Parcells was ready to take an offer from the Atlanta Falcons to become their vice-president in charge of football operations -- a job that would grant him the power to hire a general manager and head coach -- Parcells backed out of that offer later in the day.

''Prior to the information becoming public, we reached agreement in principle with Bill,'' Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank said in a statement. ``We met this morning to complete the contract. At that time we were made aware that he is considering a revised offer from the Miami Dolphins.

``He later informed us he would not be signing a contract with us.''

An ESPN report stating Parcells had backed out of the deal with Atlanta and was talking to the Dolphins flashed across the multiple plasma TV screens in the Miami locker room while players were between practice and meetings.

''We're going to have a new daddy,'' offensive tackle L.J. Shelton joked.

Defensive tackle Vonnie Holliday sees adding Parcells as a good thing.

''We talk a lot throughout this league and Bill Parcells is one of those names that if he comes in and he's on board, he's a guy that's going to get things going in the right direction,'' Holliday said. ``He's the Big Tuna.''

Jeff Darlington contributed to this report.

Do you see where it says "Head of Football Operations?"

That means, "not the Head Coach."

I guess that also means "no compensation" as well.

Sucks.

Nothing like Tuna Fishing in Miami!

Jimmy Johnson should know about that...

This surprises me. I figured the Atlanta position would be the more attractive one. They have no QB, not much of a defense, no head coach, and a GM that's probably out the door. Bill could literally build a team from scratch. I can't see Cam Cameron being shuffled out the door in Miami, although I could be wrong.

Must have come down to money for Bill.

Parcells is big on presstige. While the Dolphins are not the Dallas Cowboys they are certainly a proud franchise with a rich tradition.

Parcells resides in Florida a lot - Miami may have paid up and the most upside.

Atlanta has pending issues with Vick and reports of a meddling owner.

At end of Day here Atlanta owner is looking REAL bad lately....

Miami keeps going after our leftovers. First it was Jimmy Johnson. Then Dorie Braddy (former DCC hired to bring the Dolphins cheerleaders up to snuff). Now it's Bill Parcells. I just hope they don't come after Jason Garrett.

BP also agreed with Blank last night then backed out this morning. Bill agreeing to a contract and then signing the contract are two different things. He agreed tonight with Miami. Does he sign it tomorrow.

What is funny is that Parcells pooped on Rich McKay again. This makes the third or 4th time. Richie may need some therapy to deal with this rejection. Again.

I think the Dolphins have a better chance to win sooner than the Falcons. Get em a Qb. They have the first pick in the draft. Get em a couple of Olinemen and they might win a few games.

And in the same division as the patriots. Big Bill's last stand against little Bill. LOL j/k. I think....

In terms of drafting quality players and assembling talent, I think that Parcells is still real good. I mean he built this damn team.

Glad he's not in the NFC East.

Yeah, in 2003 he was all set to sign with Tampa Bay (had a verbal agreement I think) and then bailed on them and signed with us instead. The Bucs were quite upset about it and tried to make a stink but he hadn't actually signed a deal so they didn't have a case (or something like that).

Honestly, I would be leery of signing Parcells at this stage of his career, even for the front office job. He is still very good at some things but bad at others and he doesn't give a lot of empowerment to those under him. Whoever the HC is will have a tough time with BP as the GM.

I dont think that the GM Mueller or Cameron are going to be around next season. I think Bill will bring in the GM and then a head coach.

When Parcells came to Dallas he braught coaches and players that he had with other teams, quite a few actually. Do you think that Parcells will target any his remaining coaches on our staff scouts or front office. Or what about players that he drafted like carpenter and players that he coached in general here.

Do you think we could see a flock of cowboys personel follow Tuna to Miami?
