Parcells almost gave it away

Great win...against anyone...it's hard to win in this league on the road, especially when you're still climbing out from being a terrible team like the Cowboys have been for a few years now, so this is a great win, though our defense is definitely nothing to get excited about......................yet.

For all the hoopla over the young guys, Ware is struggling to make an impact....1 sack a game might equal 16 for a season, but he does not get constant pressure or even occasional pressure...he's going to be a good one, but he's not there yet...this defense does not tackle well.

Biggest Parcells goofs?

1. Last season's demise can be blamed on his lack of attention to the RCB spot as much as anything else.

2. This season's claim that FS was not a high priority seems to be another goof on his part, imo.

3. What the heck was he thinking going for 2 pts. in the first half....idiocy. So many back and forths and point variations take place during a game that everyone knows going for 2 before the latter half of the 4th quarter is ridiculous...almost cost us too...we had to go for 2 a second time to counteract the effect.

4. What the heck was he thinking going for the fourth down with no offensive line?....we'd just cut the lead to 5 and he gave them the ball practically in scoring position....the fake punt at that point was crazy; at least he could have snapped it to crayton or someone back off the line to pick a hole or have an option...walking Crayton up under center, saying to the defense, "Hello, we're going for it...get ready" was the worst and least creative fake I ever saw...so we end up with Crayton who weighs nothing running a QB sneak behind guys who are in a 2-pt. stance and not placed on the punt team for their blocking ability but their coverage ability...that was insane.

I feel so lucky to get this win....My hat is off to Bledsoe bigtime !!!

We definitely have us a QB...1 int was not a bad play on his part (the tip on the sideline) and the other was actually a perfect throw picked off on a great play by the DB who came out of nowhere, breaking off his own coverage because he recognized the play. Both INT's were incredible plays by the DB...wish he was playing for us. Bledsoe is the glue holding this offense together.

Through 3 games, JJ is more or less just a guy....maybe it's the OL, but he's not really a big factor. Witten had his moments today...Glenn is having a monster first 3 games...Keyshaun is making huge plays in the red zone and moving the chains...but Bledsoe is clearly our MVP at this point.

Now I actually feel that we have the time to develop a QB, be it one we have if we really think the potential is there or one we draft in the near future...I am happier with Bledsoe than any other FA we've picked up at any position in recent memory.

Henry played awful today, coverage and tackling was terrible, but at his worst he's 10 times better than what we had last year....plus Glenn is 9 times better than what we had last year....I just hope Pile, Jones, someone can come through for us at FS this year...otherwise, Parcells made another huge tactical error in the secondary.

Next week is looking like another high scoring shootout due to the weak Oakland defense....It would sure be nice to see our defense step up and finally stop giving up the big plays.

To quote the coach himself "I doesn't matter what you've done in the past, sooner or later you have to prove you can still get the job done."

Still waiting. :)

Beats me Wayne.......I have no idea what he was thinking. We had just gotten back into the game and he goes for it on 4th down on SF's end of the field. ????????????

And..even if you play it out in his framework...IF he KNOWS it's a two down area...then why run Julius straight up into the line on third down? Heck, throw the ball...because he HAD to know he was going for it on 4th...and if he was SO confident he could make it, then the third down play is a freebie, right?

Crazy play...all ways 'round.

It seems like he doesn't know whether he wants to be an aggressive or conservative coach. He plays ultra conservative at times, only to go for it on some fourth-down in the opponents' territory. He has done this since arriving here -- I think it was the Giants game last season that Parcells, afterward, said his decision to go for it was the game changer.

I disagree with you on Parcells. Parcells and Peyton had the offense playing to win today. I think that is all most of us ask for. He opened things up. He played to win and we won.

My only complaints are the defense.

Props to BP for playing to win.

I really would like to hear Parcells' reasoning for the Crayton "sneak" on 4th and 2 in our own side of the field. The play is just mind blowingly bizarre in every conceivable way. I do not get that one at all.

Nice to get the win in spite of it though.

Good observations, I pretty much agree with all of them. I totally agree with you on the 2 pt. conversion. It was an idiotic decision and could have cost the team big time, but fortunately the team overcame it. It amazes me how many times coaches screw up by going for 2 so early in the game. You don't give away points in the 2nd quarter and you have to take into account what happens if you don't make it instead of assuming you will convert.

He may have been playing to win, but going for it on 4th down in SF territory was Switzeresque!

Going for the two-point conversion in the second quarter was a mistake. Going for it on fourth-and-1 was a gutsy coaching move. Even though it failed, there's no telling what effect it might have had on the players (or maybe we'll find out, if any of them talk about it).

Remember what happened after the infamous Switzer fourth-and-1? We lost the game, but we went on to win the Super Bowl, and the players said that was a key moment that had a positive effect on the rest of the season.

:hammer: :hammer: ding ding ding

But even if you're crazy enough to run a fake punt in that situation, why in the hell do you have Crayton run a sneak from under center??? The minute he walked up there, the return team had to be looking for that one play...the whole idea of a fake punt, and especially from our end of the field, is to surprise someone, isn't it?

At least snap it back to Crayton and let him charge the line where he sees a push...what I've really been waiting for is to see him run an option play...he rushed and passed for over 1000 yards in college, I believe.

I also don't know why Crayton isn't the guy holding on the extra points...he can run or pass and has great hands...why have Romo holding???

If they say that, Adam, I'll buy it. I'll probably even buy into some reason BP may give, but was that the dumbest, least creative and least surprising fake in the history of fake punts??? Why walk up under center and tell the return team to look for the sneak as their priority?

I think it was the worst idea for a fake punt I ever saw.

desperate call at best... it was a 1 touchdown game with plenty of time. I was amazed that they didn't try to trick them at all,so then why not bring the big bodies out and go for it. A hall of fame coach making a pop warner mistake

The biggest problem I have and I don't know if it's a Parcells or Zimmer problem but we have to quit trying to match up with 3 WR offenses by using our standard 3-4. We were getting sliced and diced... like we have since the start of the season. Finally in the 4th quarter we ditched the 3-4 when SF went 3-wide.

Well, the play that was called was a bigger mistake than the decision to go for it.

I'm with you, Mike, and I also don't understand all the people calling for blitzes all the time...over the recent years, we seem to make better plays in coverage while rushing only 3 or 4....today Rattay was getting rid of it so fast that the blitz couldn't get there, like the final TD over Henry in the REdzone....at the end, I was happy to see us rushing only the down guys and using DB's all in coverage....we've been better at that in recent years, imo.

And frankly, while I excuse him due to his youth and think he'll be a fine player, Ware has very little impact on the pass rush most of the game...even if he gets a sack, he does not generate consistant pressure....yet.

Crayton is no Danny White.

God, I can't wait to download this game to see what everyone is talking about.

I agree with you. The Niners were using a ton of 3-step drops and a blitz isn't going to get there.

And yes we have been better at that in recent years.

This issue has been too obvious to me. We saw it nearly cost us a win against SD. We need to reconsider our strategy in these situations.
