Parcells Considering Coaching... Again...

he's a huge fraud of a coach now, I honestly cant believe anybody would entertain the idea of bringing this guy in to roam the sidelines again.

Parcells is the savy master of jumping ship just after he's done all he can to look good. His dedication to FINISHING the job HAS to be called into question. No doubt he is EXCELLENT at changing attitudes and getting the most out of the groceries, but he hasn't shown in the last 2 decades that he can finish the job. He is still stubborn and players do tend to tune him out after year 2 as they get tired of the heavy hand (stupid as it may be). Parcells isn't the most honest guy in many ways, and he does take advantage of the system, although I can't totally blame him. If it doesn't look like he can improve on his image, he looks for the next gig that can make him look good!

It annoys me to no end that he bailed on this team as difficult as they were to mold into what he wanted. Romo in particular would be a better player had he stayed and kept the heavy hand on him. Parcells said he was "too tired" to coach anymore and that is BS. Not only does he go to Miami and work the same amount he did hear, now he might coach again. Jones should be offended by that!

I can't possibly see him coaching again.

It was apparent that the game had passed him by in that respect.

He can still spot talent, both in players and in coaches.

But he refuses to innovate and get with the times when it comes to coaching schemes and philosophy, everything's vanilla with him.

His current role suits him best.

I am not sure how any fan of this team can truly think Parcells would be good for this team? He was not great here. Just because Wade is/has been bad here, Parcells is not the answer.

I was as big fan of Parcells as there was. But his tenure with Cowboys completely soured me. He was stubborn and not willing to innovate or take chances, that he used to, prior to being with Cowboys. He was just too old to lose and hence became ultra conservative.

Cowboys just went the other extreme with Wade though. Cowboys need a middle ground.

He is a rebuilder of franchises.


He built and won with Giants.
He built and almost won with Jets - they were horrible before and have been decent to good since... sans a poor season here and there.
He built the Pats from zero to hero.
He brought Dallas back from the dead.
He brought Miami back from the dead.

Its what he does now.

Detroit would be perfect for him. Perfect for Detroit as GM that is.

how can you honestly argue otherwise...he did a good job of changing the culture, improving personnel/draft decision making and scouting...

but he was a mediocre head coach here...he didnt win a playoff game in 4 yrs, and he got everything he wanted...thats not success

Given three 5-11 seasons under Campo, Parcells was excellent. However, Parcells choked in the playoffs and endured a 6-10 seasons as well so it's not like he did a far better job than Wade Phillips in regards to contending for a championship.

Furthermore, Parcells still hasn't proven he can win in the playoffs without Bill Bellichek at his side. Meanwhile, Bellichek has won without Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weiss which was the popular excuse on this forum regarding this topic in that Bellichek still had Parcells' old assistants so that theory was shot down. Weiss and Crennell have struggled on their own. Parcells is a great coach but Bellichek made Parcells legendary. I'm still not convinced Parcells can take a team to a Superbowl without Bellichek. I mean it's not a coincidence that Parcells only succeeded with Bellichek at his side.

Parcells is a great rebuilder but not a winner without Bellichek. The Lions should hire him and let him rebuild that team to a playoff contender while he "retires" in 3 years only to coach some other team.

I was absolutely thrilled when we got him.

After his 2nd yr, and especially his 3rd I knew Jones had been had.

I definitely wouldnt say I was ever a Parcells "homer" but after years of Switzer, Gailey and Campo, he was a hell of a hire. One that everybody said could not possibly happen. In the end, he wasnt the coach people thought we were getting.
