Parcells has not retired! He just quit this team

Fourth months ago, I predicted Parcells would retire at the end of this season. I saw the writing on the wall because Parcells is ultimately selfish in that Bobby Knight type of way. He quit on our team because he recognized that he can't win a championship here. He is not "retiring." He will just abide his team until he sees another opportunity. Parcells will start over with another team in 2 years. He will just lay low and then start over with another team that he feels he has a legitimate chance to win a championship. If the Colts lose badly in the Superbowl. I wouldn't be suprised if Parcells has his eye on that job and if the Colts consider him in the near future.

I also think Parcells' time in Dallas proved that he couldn't really win without Bill Bellichek. He was here for 4 years, and he never had a dominant defense that resembled those of his previous Giants, Patriots or Jets teams. Meanwhile, Bellichek has won without Parcells, and without his former coordinators like Romeo Crennell and Charlie Weiss. You can see that the Patriots will be contenders for years in the future.

As far as I'm concerned, Parcells is an overinflated tuna! He may go down as arguably the greatest head coach of all time. However, after his stint in Dallas, he will also go down as one of the most overrated coaches of all time too.

And yes, you are so right. Based on his history, the teams he signs on with are all the epitome of just that one step away from greatness....

I'm pretty sure he's probably done as a HC. If not, then I guess you are right. But I trully find it strange that he has assembled a team here that is this close to something special, only to let someone else have a crack at it with his team. Especially if he begins to hear the whispers of "look what ______ got Parcells team to do"

Right, and he has never said he was going to retire before now. I mean it's not like he ever left a talented team before right? Those Giants, Pats, and Jets teams had absolutely no talent when he "retired" And you are absolutely right, he never leaves teams that had had recent success like appearing in a Superbowl the year before! every where he goes he leaves the teams better than when he got there. I am not sure mercenary is the right word and you seem to have a negative feeling about him.

I hate to disagree but Parcells won't be back. He came to Dallas for one reason and one reason only, he needed the money. He was never in Dallas to win so he really didn't care from day one.

Jones needed Parcells at the time, Parcells needed Jones' cash. It was a match made in heaven for the short term.
