Henson Finally Home

Drew Henson practiced Friday after returning from NFL Europe two weeks ago, and while his European stint was more than a vacation, Parcells said the third-year quarterback didn't make the progress he was expecting.

"I can't say he made a lot," Parcells said. "I think the experience was good for him and playing in the games was good for him but I was hoping for just a little bit more."

Henson worked with the third-team offense throughout practice.

"I got to play games week after week which is what I think I needed most," Henson said. "It feels like I was gone for a long time ,so it feels good to be back in the States and be working with my team."

Henson injured his knee late in the NFL Europe season but was cleared by doctors to play the final game, and said Friday that the sprained MCL no longer bothers him.

Based on this read it looks like Henson's days in Dallas are numbered......

The Answer has been waiting to hear direct feedback from Bill Parcells and/or the Cowboys organization regarding Henson's stint in the developmental league. The Answer is actually surprised that Parcells made these comments publicly and wonders if this is the final blow to Henson's confidence as he's about to bust in his 2nd pro sports league.

Also it looks like Romo has the back up job firmly locked down as Henson was working with the 3rd unit in mini-camp.

Should be interesting to see if Parcells looks to bring in a veteran QB to camp this summer or just stay content with Henson. Regardless what happens the competition for the 3rd QB spot could be very intense if Jeff Mroz makes noise in camp!

Based on seeing the press conference it looks like Henson will be contending with Romo for the backup spot this year.

I can see it as a motivation thing with Henson, not to mention a tool to see how reacts to public criticism from the coach. Remember even after a blow out Parcells still can find the negatives in the game.

Parcells also said Henson is far better off than he was last season because he got that playing experience. His performance in NFL Europe is irrelevant. His role this season will be determined entirely by what happens between now and September.

The greats do great things, I saw wut BP said at the press conference. I think he did it on purpose just so that it would get to Henson in a harsh way. Kinda like when they tell u that u suck, and u wanna prove em wrong.

lets hope Henson, lives up to expectations.

The Answer  needs to get a clue about what feedback from Parcells means. Parcells Never says what he means and would never publicly acknowledge it if he did think that Henson had an outstanding season in NFLE. He is just pushing Henson's buttons right now and we may never know how he actually feels about the guy.

You should not jump to conclusions based on one mini-camp depth chart rotation. Henson was 3rd team all last year and ended the season as 3rd team. It is only logical that he would come into his first mini-camp of the year as 3rd team. Position battles take place in Training Camp not mini-camps so Romo is by no means a lock even though he will go into TC with the #2 job his to lose.

As for Mroz; I like his measureables and all that I have read about him but he is way behind the curve. It is highly doubtful that he is going to show enough as a rookie to unseat either of our two established backups and he is most likely Camp Fodder / Practice Squad material.

Listen, I heard that statement, and I thought, "Bill, there are some really good things that you do, and there are some really bad things you do." Imo, evaluating QB is one of the bad things. So I take what he says and it worries me, since I saw alot of Henson in NFLE. Even if Big Bill is just playing mind games or he really means what he says, what he says is highly suspect to me.

Well, for instance, Phil Simms and Scott Brunner = Bill Parcells almost getting fired! Fast forward to the present/past and review the journey of Vinnie InterceptionVerde in Dallas. I originally thought he brought Vinnie in to be backup to Carter, but now that I know Parcell's philosophy of everyone has to earn their position, I have to revisit that thought. And wasn't Parcells the one to draft Chad Pennington for the Jets?

At any rate, 6-10 wasn't what I had in mind after Dallas had made the playoffs the previous year. Watching Vinnie literally give the game away to Pittsburgh in the last few minutes, was like watching the movie, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, and every game thereafter, reliving the movie GROUNDHOG DAY.

So, I'll evaluate what I saw Henson do, and hope to God, the Eagles or the Skins don't get hold of him when his contract is up.

In my mind he's earned the backup QB position over Romo before TC, just for playing in Europe, while Tony the Tiger Woods Romo stayed home and played Golf.

In the final analysis though, I look at Dallas' roster of QB's and see a goldmine. So, I guess we'll find out if what I saw in Europe carries over into TC, assuming Parcells gives Henson time to work with the first unit.

I'll say this too; if that had been Bledsoe playing for the Rhein, he'd have gotten real acquainted with his behind.

Day's are numbered.

Rose-colored glasses can maybe start coming off around here. Oh but wait, denial is still denial and I can see there's still a whole BUNCH of it coursing through the Zone's veins, yet.

Bill, only one way to get through to these people...one foot on Henson's *** out the door and your other foot to some people's heads. Of course that foot on Henson as he's being driven out of your camp should be a sufficiant enough pop to the head for some of these blind.

'Wha-wha-wha play Henson over Vinny!!! Do it now! Wha-wha-wha!!!!"

"There, I DID, HE SUCKED! HAPPY NOW?!"

"Wha-wha-wha Henson was pulled too soon, he wasn't given a shot! Wha-wha-wha!"

"I don't care anymore, he's third string. Get it? Got it? GOOD!"

"Wha-wha-wha this just isn't fair wha-wha-wha just not fair at all. Jerry, do something, pleassssssssssssssssssssssse!!"

"Oh bloody hell, alright Jerry, I'll send his *** to Europe for a summer, zzzzzz... I mean yea, I will."

"WOO-WOO-WOO Henson rocks the world so much in Germany! Did you see?! Did you see?! Did you see?! Omigod he's the greatest thing since sliced bread! Did you see?! Did you see?! The future of our franchise is here, hell yessssssssssss!!!!"

"He sucked it up so damn bad but I'm just not going to say that publically. It's like the whole Quincy thing over again...fragile egos need to be protected. He's not Drew Bledsoe. He's certainly NOT a Troy Aikman. I'm sorry Dallas but it is what it is and this isn't going to happen."

"ROTFlmao" Get it straight people, this was the "motivational tool", him being sent to Europe to prove himself whilst his back was up against the wall. The man said it, he did not live up to expectations. How many chances is one of the most hard-nosed coaches in the history of the game supposed to give this joker clown? All i know is many are you are just asking for way too much. Parcells only has so much patience and time to spend wasting on a project player. Two years and a year in Europe, this very well could be it for Henson, and in my opinion, it should be, nuff said.

I'll admit Parcell's words puzzled me and I came away with a 'mind games' impression from his words. If you didn't like what he did why can't you be more specific about what it was.

I wonder what Henson's anwer would be to the question "Has Parcells spoken to you directly about your NFLE performance?"

Henson's best answer to all of this needs to be a good performance in TC and the pre-season. If he accomplishes this, he anwers Parcells in the best possible way and sets himself up for whatever happens next with the Cowboys or some other team if it doesn't work out.

As usual The Answer is reading too much in to what Parcells says. I think I'll wait until training camp is over and then see if Henson is gone. If he is gone good luck to him somewhere else and I hope he doesn't come bite to bite us you know where. I'll say the same for any other QB on the roster.

IMO We'll go in to the season the same way we did last year Bledsoe, Romo and Henson with Mroz on the PS.

Wow...Henson worked with the third team.

Shocking, since he was our third string QB last year.

Zippy it can't be motivational if the player in question is the one that brought up the idea to go to Europe to get playing time. Remember Bill likes to keep his QB's here under his watchful eye. Remember last summer the summer of 1 million pass attempts to fix his mechanics. Bill is a instigator, he does it to see what kind of character you have, he pushes til you crack and if you crack at an acceptable level to him he pulls back a little from that point and rides you hard, if you crack to early he gets rid of you. You need to learn to respect your fellow posters a bit more, your opinion is no more valid than most others. Your use of hyperbole and ridicule makes you come off looking a but juvenile here Zippy, please take this to heart.

Parcell was not only motivating Henson, but also Romo and Mroz. He gives Henson a shot that tells him not to get comfortable because Parcells isn't impressed. At the same time it is telling Romo, you better watch out. This guy wants your job and he is getting better. He also let Mroz know that there is hope for him, since Parcells is not satisfied with what he has got.

What continues to amaze me is how Henson keeps surviving these preseason cliffhangers year after year. History kinda favors Henson not losing his job to Mroz for this reason.
