Bill Parcells plans to play Tony Romo "quite a bit" this preseason.

"I think had he been thrown to the wolves, so to speak, he probably would be looked upon a little differently than he is now," Parcells said. "So we'll see; I'm hoping to play him quite a bit in preseason."

Bledsoe should only see a few possesions a game before the backups take over.

Yes, it is time to see what we've got from BOTH Romo and Henson. Drew's only got so much left in the tank (2-3 years, I figure). We need to start facing up to our lack of depth at QB - or establish that we have some.

Either way, I figure we'll be in the market come next off-season (because I doubt BOTH Romo and Henson will show they've got what it takes).

While I don't think much of Parcells' ability to judge QB talent (TEs and LBs ok...but not QBs) I do feel that we have had some assistant coaches here who DO know QBs. Sean Payton and David Lee are both considered very good QB coaches and they have had a good look at both Romo and Henson. I think that if either of these guys (Romo and Henson) were as poor as you suggest that they would have been weeded out and sent packing.

At this point Romo seems to be ahead of Henson as he was the #2 all last year and through this recent mini-camp. And based on the fact that we have had Romo here for 3 years with some very good QB coaches looking at him and he is still the #2 guy tells me that he has the potential to play NFL QB at a high level. But I have yet to see anything that convinces me that Henson is out of the picture either.

I hope Mroz gets some playing time. He looks pretty good from reports.

agreed all around.

i don't get why people expect would romo (to be on the roster yet) not be #2 given his tremendous college experience alone, nevermind henson's time off.

tuna always says guys compete for spots with guys NOT on the roster yet (which is more a reason to expain why romo/henson earned their stay here still)... it's not like tuna is afraid to bring in a replacement "if you can find one at 7/11" ;)

I agree with your statement on QBs. Parcells has never really impressed me in this regard.

I want to see him get more time also.

But at what player's expense? You have to work your starter some.

The backup comes next as you want some work with the rest of the first-team in a game situation.

So that leaves Henson, who needs as much action as possible.

I wonder what's available. Since Coach Parcells has been here, have we even had a fourth QB?

To be honest, I would have loved to have seen Romo in a real game. I would have liked to see what he can actually do or not do when the live ammo is flying.

We saw Henson in a live game. That didn't answer any more questions we had about his ability to be a future starter, did it?

Neither did Chan Gailey, Dave Campo or Wade Wilson.

The whole organization has failed at developing QBs since Norv Turner left.

Norv Turner >> David Palmer as an OC and QB developer. Wish we had him now.

It's more then that. Ever since the Giants, I have just never thought that QBs were one of BPs strengths. He's a great coach IMO. I am a fan of Parcells but I've just never felt like he was very good with QBs. Some are, he's not IMO.

I do agree with you thou. That is one area our team has failed misserably at.

It would seem you got it right when you said TEAM.

Hard to blame some of the coaches when they only attempted to draft one QB in the first day (QC).

Sure they traded a pick for Henson but the idea is they have basically said, lets try to hit a home run at QB but do so while playing with a wiffle ball bat.

I have been long since tired of our approach at QB. I just have never believed, as soom do, that you can draft guys in the 4th or 5th or whatever and expect them to develop into starters. Does it happen? Sure, it does happen on occasion but the percentages clearly show, IMO, that success at QB comes in the higher rounds, as opposed to the lower ones. I really hope we take a good run at a Franchise QB this next draft. I think it's long over due, as you said.
