Parcells ruined Jones (dont think so)

If parcells ruined Jones by coaching him to avoid negative plays, then why is Barber doing so well as a rookie, when he is being coached by the same person and inevitably receiving the same coaching advice. ?

Just wanted to point that out since every week someone says Parcells ruined Julious.

Don't you know? Today--it's ALL Bill's fault.

Bad weather--Bill's fault.
Bad breath--Bill's fault.
Male pattern baldness--Bill's fault.
Lack of virility--Bill's fault.
El Nino--Bill's fault.

So naturally he ruined Julius. And apparently he's ruined Spears/Ware too(according to some posts).

You know, normally it's George Bush's fault, but today it's Bill's fault.

I think it's just easier for a lot of folks to blame one guy than it is to actually see why things happen the way that they do.

Precisely. Barber is a rookie. He hasn't had time to be corrupted by Bill yet. Give it time, man, give it time.

I never bought that argument, but from what I understand, it takes Parcells time to break the player. Next year you should see a difference in Barber according to this theory.

The line just has not been good this year. It started out about average or just under and has now become one of the bottom 5 to 10 lines in the league.

Rookie RT. You expect some struggles there and that has happened. Can he get better for next season?

A RG who missed most of training camp with a back injury. He never seemed to recover and has been pushed around and made mistakes. Will he be asked to come back next season?

A center position that is finally getting the snap right. The majority of the time is manned by a guy that is too weak and the rest of the time by one who is too dumb. Can they or will they try to find anything better next season?

A LG who is one year older, not one year better. Larry can do some good things. He is still the best lineman on the team. That isn't really a great compliment anymore.

A LT who can't beat out the rookie RT. Flozell will return, but at what level?

With all that, how was Julius supposed to be successful? Heck, I thought he was doing a good job to average 81 yards a game before his injury. If he would have maintained that for a full season, that is 1296 yards. Most people would take that. The line has become worse and neither he or Barber are going to put up good numbers behind them.

BP did teach Julius ball security during the offseason. Now whether that or his ankle isn't 100% only a few people know, so the rest by us is just idle speculation.

But as far as your argument, it holds no water. If Barber suceeds at a running style, it doesn't mean it will work for Julius. Every RB is different, with different things that make them better or worse than the next guy. You can't compare them at all.

No, Barber is a power back. He doesn't need blocking as much as JJ who is more of a finesse back. The thing is, MBIII isn't going to be that much better with good blocking. But you give JJ better blocking and he's a 1500 yard per season back easy.

I agree 110%. Good post.

barber and JJ have different running styles. JJ is a shifty back who makes cuts and things, parcells is trying to turn him into a strictly north-south runner. barber is much more adept at this style of running. Lets wait till next year to make this judgement though, i dont think JJ is 100% and its not like barber is tearing the NFL to pieces

Exactly. We just can't compete. This is twice now, both NFC East games, where our O & D line have been pushed around like rag dolls. What makes it worst is that these games where the most critical of the year. The teams we played against stepped it up a notch, and we .....

Parcells isn't trying to make him anything.

We can't afford to spread defenses and create space for JJ like we did last year because the O-linemen can't beat their men straight up. So we are max protecting and its getting too clogged, even on draws or delays, for JJ to find the kind of room he needs to excell. There are no cutback lanes this year.

Barber just is better suited to our current (crappy) situation. He hits the inital hole harder and can survive intial contact most of the time.

Parcells ruined Julius. Jones never cuts back anymore. Seems to have lost his vision. Last season Julius looked like something special, this year after an offseason of the great Parcells...Julius has become a bust.

Good point, never thought of it that way. Remember guys, at the beginning of the season JJ was a much better runner when we had the Oline in tact. I know people point out his low average, but he did have at LEAST 3 long runs called back on penalties.

Give it the off-season.

IF he did ruin him...and I'm not saying that he did, it took place during the off-season.

Blaming someone and holding them responsible are two different issues. I don't blame Parcells for our current situation but I do hold him responsible. He is the CEO and he is being paid a lot of money to make decisions that influence the rest of the team including personnel decisions. So if his players are failing to execute, keep in mind, he is the one who is responsible for them being on the team. That is why he is being paid as the Head Coach.

there's a reason Julious doesnt cut back anymore, because there is a wall of people, our oLineman falling down and the other teams defense busting through. You have to have lanes for him to cut back to.

A cut back runner comes behind his blocker and sets up the defender by moving one way then cutting back after the defender commits to coming around one side of the blocker.

If there is no blocking, how you gonna set up the defense one way and then cut back ?

Exactly....this team can only go as far as the o-line takes us. Same goes for the d-line.

In the Giant game last year JJ was constantly dodging people in the backfield; BUT he was able to juke them on numerous occasions and gain yards. In one play he faked 3 Giants to the inside then cut outside for 11 yds. He was also holding the ball in one hand. Now BP has him using both hands and going where the play is designed. NO attempt at jukes or cutbacks. BP has terrified JJ into becoming a machine with no originality or ingenuity. Good job, BP; hope you are proud.

This should be a thread on JJ. Will he or won't he have surgery on his ankle in the offseason. I bet he does...
