he can tell if a player is going to make it by his 3rd season.
Parcells is in his 3rd season coaching Dallas and is 2 games over .500.
Should Jerry Jones be applying the same rule to him?
Parcells say you are what you are, and he is essentially average as a head coach for Dallas after nearly 3 years.

Parcells took over a team that won 15 games in 3 years. He has had this team in the playoff hunt 2 out 3 years that he has been here. We are much better with Parcells here then without him.

The problem is too many people treat Parcells' past accolades as excuses for today.

All I know is the over-reactions will begin to start ... but a 35-7 drubbing deserves some over-reaction.

Parcells is still living in 1986 ... no FA and plenty of depth along the OL. We have no depth along the OL. Adams' injury sealed our fate.

Tucker does not belong on this team.

Cutting Rogers may have been bigger than it seemed at the time.

Wasting picks on Rogers and Peterman are HUGE.

Parcells is being paid $4.6 mil to win these type of big games. So far, we're 1-3 starting on Thanksgiving. Every single one of these games were HUGE. We came up short in 3 ... almost 4.

35-7 shows us we're not a playoff team.

I don't know if questioning Parcells is an overreaction at this point. Other teams have been turned around in this kind of time frame.
Remember Vermeil in St Louis? Took him what, 3 years, to turn around a horrendous team and win a SB?
Sure, thats not the norm, but with Parcell's track record Dallas should be more competitive than they are now. Dallas should be capable of going deep into the playoffs by this point after having Parcells at the helm for 3 seasons.
Can't blame all this on Flozell going down.

And Gibbs is getting paid even more to win these same games too! Everyone seems to forget how bad a team we have been for the past few years dating back to 98 I believe. Parcells is putting the pieces together slowly. We have more young talent here then we have had since the mid to late 90's. That is attributed to Parcells. It is amazing, when the Boys win, everyone praises the players. What a great job so and so did. When the Boys lose its all about Parcells sucks, Payton sucks, Zimmer sucks get rid of them.

Give me a break hes basically had one offseason to add talent to this team. Most said if Dallas finished 9-7 this year it would be a miracle and that is probably exactly where they will finish.

9-7 will be a miracle? This is his 3rd year in control of every aspect of the Cowboys organization. It shouldn't take a miracle for 9-7.

Folks, at the end of Campo's last season, we had ben 6-10 for the three striaght years if I recall correctly. Not only had we been bad, we had drafted terribly as well with a talent account near the bottom of the league. Then add to that, the Quincy Carter debacle in the middle of things. This season we have had injury woes at key positions. We have a bunch of rookies on the team. Very few of us picked the Cowboys to be any better than 10-6 amd many selected 9-7. There was a window of opportunity this year caused by the collapse of the Eagles. But we could not take advantage of it.

I'm not excusing today's performance. I wish we had done better. The offense looked putrid and the defense was porous at key spots. But I'm sticking with Parcells because we have continued to improve under him. I'll stick with him one more year. I want to see him go after the offense in the off season and make it over.

No excuses. One more year to make a run at it.

I'll stick with him too - if he makes the playoffs.

No playoffs this year, no Parcells as far as I'm concerned.

Parcells has had unlimited funds and high draft picks. I expect more.

Besides that, there is a disturbing pattern here, we come out strong every season; and fold as the season progresses. Young teams should not do that.

Coaching issue.

Actually thats what young teams who have not been in those situations before do. It take's experience of being in those situations to make a team better.

then why the refusal to give a young qb that "experience"?

catch 22.

Great post. To be honest, I think we may be two years away from truly going deep into the playoffs. Someone mentioned the Dick Vermeil/St. Louis scenario from '99. The difference there was that the Rams had actually had three to four very good drafts in a row before setting the stage for that miraculous '99 season. Dallas has had three good to very good drafts in a row, prior to that being nine years of poor talent evaluation. If they can somehow get another very good draft in here next April, the stage could be set. I think the rookies on defense have hit a wall here and are struggling. But, I do like the character on this team. These guys truly want to get better and take losing hard. We can't the let the emotion of one terrible loss obscure the progress this organization has made. We need to be patient here and stay the course. The cap room is there. Our scouting staff is as good as it has been since the early '90s. The organization is finally setup the way Parcells wants it. Everything is in place, all they need is the time to accumulate more talent.

so we wait 2 years when his contract and drews are over THEN we're ready?

we're built/designed to WIN NOW - you get no long term excuses under this model.

My dream scenario:

Jerry to Bill: You're fired.

My dream scenario:

Some reporter with some gonads to stand up to this guy in next press conference and point out how stupid it was to let Hoffman go and remind this Egomaniac how successful Hoffman was with kickers and terrible we are in this area now, and it's all because of this move - Parcells fault.

They were 6-10 last year like time I checked, what do you want. This team has overachieved all season in my opionion and we are lucky they will win 9 games. Its been a fun ride but reality has sunk.

BP will be here atleast 1 more year. If you want a new coach now, then you will start from scratch again. His defense is almost there, but he will have to address his o-line. If the Cowboys had a better o-line they would be contenders. Lets see what they do in the off season with that and this T.O. drama. If they decline next year then I see Jerry Jones making a change.
